All Colt revolvers have only one locking point in the rear of the frame, no lockup in front of the cylinder. S&W K, L,and N frame revolvers, along with the entire Ruger DA Six series revolvers have locking points in the rear of the cylinder as well as the front of the ejector rod. Ruger GP100, SP101, and Redhawk, (as well as Dan Wesson) revolvers have locking points in the rear of the cylinder and in the crane directly under the forcing cone.

I personally have found Rugers to be brute strong. L and N frame S&W revolvers are also amply strong. I have little experience with Colt revolvers. The Pythons are insanely accurate and exhibit a fine albeit older "stacking" action. I have been informed by several gunsmiths that if shot often with stout loads, they tend to lose their timing rather quickly. They are not easily repaired, and are usually turned down by many gunsmiths on the spot. Sending one back to Colt can be a wonderful experience or a nightmare. Upon hearing this from many gunsmiths and Colt revolver owners over the years, I decided to stay with Ruger and S&W.
