Beretta 92FS Newbie

I've been wanting to get back into shooting again after being out of if for a few years - OK, more than a few.

I traded in my .357mag revolver and bought a Beretta 92FS. How did I do? Is this a good gun? I've heard a lot about Glocks and all the different types and it's hard to pick one, but I've also heard good things about the Berettas. I was going to get a Vertec, but I like the bigger grips on the 92FS since I have bigger hands.

I didn't know if I should go with the 9mm or the .40 or even a .45 for that matter but the guy in the gun shop said for plinking around, the 9mm would be good choice. I almost bought the Glock so I'm hoping a made a good choice in my 92FS.

Welcome to G&G, IHL.
Have you shot the 92 yet?
Did you have a good time?
If yes, then you did OK.
What kind of .357 did you trade for it?

IHL,

Contrary to the performance in Iraq this is a good pistol. Long sight radius, easy to use controls, easy field stripping.

The one thing I would watch is the locking block. Replace it every 5000 rounds (maintenence). Mine went out on my Taurus 92 with Cor®Bon ammo and suddenly it felt as if I had a .357mag in my hand- the slide didn't unlock.

The 92 series is better accuracy wise than many people would have you believe. With very slight work to my Taurus 92, handling being the main goal and accuracy being a side benefit, I can achieve sub-2" groups at 25yds rapid fire.

Thus far I have over 10,000 rounds through mine. Longevity is good.

I haven't shot it yet. I can't actually even pick it up until tomorrow - still in the 48 hour waiting period.

I had a .357 Colt Trooper Mark III. It was pretty. Nickel finish and in great shape. I'll probably be sorry I got rid of it someday but I haven't shot it in years so hopefully I won't miss it too bad.

I haven't heard anyone trash Beretta in general yet and the 92FS seems to be pretty widely accepted so I'm hoping I made a good move. I'm looking forward to getting out and blasting with it. Unfortunately I live in the city so I can't just go in the back yard and blast away. Well, I could I guess, for a little while until

So it looks like it's off to the gun club for me.
