| Which pistol is very reliable and very accurate?
I would like to know what is a very reliable and very accurate pistol. Browsing a Russian website, they have a brief description of the Walther P99 and say it is "extremely reliable and extremely accurate". Does anyone know of the P99's quality and what is the best pistol for reliability and accuracy? Thanks in advance. Robert. Sydney. |

Well if the P22 is any indication, the P99 is a gigantic hunk of crap. Moderately priced: Glock17/19, Ruger P95, CZ75 Expensive: Kimber 1911, Browning Hi-Power

Glock's are good (if you have had some experiece with pistols). Kimber's are good if you can afford them. Ruger's P series are ok for the money. My suggestion would be to look at a Springfield XD-40. Great guns.

| Reliable pistol?
When it's all said and done, there's not a pistol out there to compare, from a reliability standpoint, to the Glock. Absolutely, totally, none. You can like them (as I do) or hate them, nobody else can compare from a reliability standpoint. eljay |

Darn tootin on the Steyr M series. Excellent reliability, smooth cycling, good trigger for a polymer framed striker fired gun, all the safety features you'd want or would just as soon ignore. I bought one that was supposed to be the first of many handguns. I have not bought another handgun since. NOTHING can beat it in my opinion and NOTHING can beat its price for the quality. IF you are still looking, you can get similar reliability in a Springfield XD. HK USPs are also good choices. They cost twice as much as the Steyr but features are different if you want them that way and folks say they're just as good. Glocks are fine, but really the Spring XDs are every bit as good and less expensive. Glocks have a big name and frankly I think that's the only reason they can stay in business charging that much (at least in the American market.) Also, the ones with perfect reliability are the 9mm and 10mm models. Ones in 40 and 45 ACP simply aren't as good. Some specimens, perhaps many specimens are great, but simply put, whatever problems are traditionally associated with Glocks are primarily in the 40 and 45 ACP models. Sigs are quality as well if you like the feel and features. Reason I say Steyr without a doubt: 1. Reliability is BEST, others can only equal it. 2. Feel is BEST, second to none. This is due to a low barrel axis that NOTHING else features. 3. Price is BETTER than anything that has any of the same qualities and quality is BETTER than anything at the same or lower price. The ONLY centerfire auto pistols I would even consider at a lower price would be variations of the Browning, Beretta, Walther PP/PPK, Makarov, CZ-52, or CZ-75. That's it.

Barring some crappy ammo, my ten year old Colt 1991A1 has NEVER failed or let me down. Total reliability, enough accuracy to get the job done. A bit heavy for CCW though. However, it's getting tougher every day to maintain my hatred for the Plastic Fantastic. The Glock is one ugly amphibian - but I shoot the danged thing so well!

| Administrator ![]() | http://www.gunandgame.com/forums/s-a...highlight=4506 I picked this pistol up at a great price. With a little custom work it has become the most reliable single stack .45 ACP pistol I own. I highly reccomend. Competed with a Glock 21 (.45acp) for the first time this past weekend, it had a Bar-Sto barrel installed... ( www.barsto.com ). Great results, the Glock 21 is a sound choice in my book. The reliability, accuracy, and payload are impressive. Along with the 1911, the previously mentioned pistols are easy to get parts for. S&W auto parts are found through Brownells or on the auction forums fairly cheap. Glock parts are absolutely everywhere.

I concur with Jesse's 4506 recommendation. Mine has been extremely reliable and easy to strip and clean. However, I do not recommend it for competition use. I love it for defense and practice shooting. I keep one beside the bed.

Thanks all, you've been very helpful. I've made no decision on what to buy but the Glock 17 or 19, or Springfield XD9 look to be one of the choices. Thanks for steering me in the right direction. |

I've fired many Glocks...had a couple as service guns...I sure wouldn't put them a the top of MY reliability check list. There are many great guns out there (among them Sig....Colt.....Springfield....Beretta....and the list goes on) but I'd leave the Glock off of a list reserved for the great ones. If they were totally reliable then there sure wouldn't be a large group of disenters against the plastic 'Matel" guns, LOL. But, as always, eljay is entitled to his opinion...yepper....fer sure!
