Semi-Auto Slide Rail Lub?

I would like to know what folks are using to lubricate the slide rails on their semi-autos. I've been using just a touch of Lubriplate Aero, but wonder if this is the right choice. Thanks for any inputs on this.

a good quality oil is all that is required. remoil, fp-10, militech, etc, etc. 1 or 2 drops on each rail should be enough. the pistol will let you know when you put too much on.

Rem Oil or Break Free LUBRICANT, not just ordinary break free. I think the break free Lube has a silver label, or it used to at least.

I use Break Free lube and Militech.

I've not had a problem yet.

On the other hand any lube produced for the care of firearms should do the trick.

It's just a matter of brand preferrence after that.

what does the pistol do when you put too much? I apply liberally a lot of oil on every surface after cleaning. Usually by the time I go out again, it has drained off or somewhat dried out. I was using the oil that came with a cleaning kit, something like Otters gun oil.

It collects dust which could result in more wear on surfaces.

if you over oil the slide rails, it will spray your face with oil when fired- thats how it will let you know.

In cold weather, oils get thicker (More viscous). This can present a problem at pivot points and on small sliding parts (read safety lever and firing pin). If I'll be out when it's very cold I switch to powdered graffite to lube my firearms. If it's only moderately cold then I lightly oil. -UR
