RUGER... NUFF SAID I have a stainless 4in security six,i bought it (or stole it so to speak) from a reputable gun store in fair condition with pachmayr grips. after some t.l.c. it looks-shoots and is as dependable a weapon as you will ever find for 230.00 Rapid fire.158 grain rounds did nothing more than warm the barrel and upset the range master... over 200 rounds that day and atleast 1000 since. Well, you get the message.

The Colt if kept in excellent condition well continue to increase in value, not to sure about the Ruger. Both are very good DA revolvers, I have owned both. Unless it's a lot more money, get the Colt.

Dear BattlerifleG3 I have owned both the sec. six(stainless) and a trooper Mk3(blued) and both were great. When my company left town and I was out of work I sold the colt because it was worth more and easier to sell. But it means it will cost more than the Ruger to buy. Take your pick and I think you'll be happy. I have tried some of the other ones talked about but like the two you picked. the gp-100 is a nice gun but the sec. six looks nicer in my opinion.

Get the Ruger. It's more gun for less money. Far safer than the Colt, and will handle any load you want to shoot. I have a SS 4" and love it.

If you can find one,( get two because I want one) look at an IzMech MP-412. It's a polymer frame, top break(like the old Scholfield's) .357 mag made in Russia during the Clinton years. It was supposed to be for the US market, but the Clinton / Yeltzin agreement banned import then. Production has since stopped. Check it out at "Modern Firearms And Ammunition". I forgot the actual URL. Any way, I WANT ONE!!!! BTW, they were in limited distrubition in Europe.

Another vote for the GP100. A spring kit and some internal cleanup is usually required for best trigger action but they are accurate and reliable. Had a SW686 about 20 years ago. It too was nice but I do not feel it was as strong as the Ruger. The Rugar also has a unique grip mounting system that allows you te attach all sorts of grips form round butt to square to whatever. When ammo manufacturers test proof loads they use Rugers unless a true test barrel is available. That ought to tell you something about strength. Bottom line is what fits your hand and balances best for you.

I voted other. I know you don't like the GP-100 but it really is a well built well balanced pistol. The felt recoil is milder with the full underlug and in my opinnion the extra weight from the underlug causes the pistol to recoil more inline instead of climbing up. I could be wrong and i'm sure someone here can correct me on this. My Uncle had and still has the GP-100 and I was all set to buy one until a classmate needed money in a bad way and sold me a 6" stainless taurus. The price was right ($80.00) and that's why I bought it. Had I to do all over again I should have bought the GP-100. Nothing against the Taurus it has been a pretty good pistol but I don't shoot it as accurately as with the GP-100 and it doesn't like the heavier bullets like the 158s. The Taurus' main duty is collecting dust in the gun safe.
