| Good $400 handgun? I am going to sell my Ruger P89 and add a hundred to it so I have $400. Don't want a 9mm, but am interested in .40, .45, .357, 10mm, .357 Sig. Any suggestions?? I really like the Taurus PT100, but I will have to order it off the web and don't want to do that.

| Mr. Fixit ![]() | EAA Witness, Rock Island Armory 1911. My son has a Taurus PT-111 .40 that is very reliable but the trigger pull is extremely heavy and it groups like a shotgun due to a barrel problem.

| I would try and save a little more and look at the springfield xd's they are going for about 450. Also look at the taurus pt1911, they are around 430, and have alot of options that come with like adj trigger pull and such. |

| I would love a Springfield 1911, and I regret selling the last one so much. THat is in the $500 range and I just don't have that much dough. I am leaning in the Tuarus direction, but I am hesitant to buy anything Tuarus.

| I'm with you on the Taurus. Just too inconsistent. I relly like Witness the more I research. They make a good 10mm

| Senior Member | I'm with Mooseman on the Baby Eagle. I had one as my first centerfire pistol, and have since sold it to a friend. I still get to shoot it once in a while, and the more experienced I get with pistols the more I like the way they handle. It has about the best trigger for a $400 handgun Edit: That Witness would be a good buy as well, one thing about them is that they are CZ clones (baby eagle is too) so CZ 75 40S&W mags will work in that too

| Mr. Fixit ![]() | One good thing about the Witness is that they are easily customized and carry a lot of parts and accessories on their website. EAAcorp.com - European American Armory Inc. - Homepage

| Look at the Stoeger Couger, it's the old Beretta Couger but made in Turkey where labor costs are much lower. They go for a touch over $300.

| Super Moderator ![]() | I've read excellent things about the Cougar, but one thing that really ticked me off about it was the ambidextrous slide safety - you can't let it go without catching the safety on your fingers and hurting yourself.

| Banned | I'm thinking about getting one of the the Stoeger Cougar 8000's in 9mm. Retail price is mid $300's. However they do offer it in .40 so you might think about that. Maybe a Glock .40 police trade in? And for a 1911, you should be able to get some 1911 model for around $400. |

| Mercenary cheapskate weasel approach I suggest you take a look at ammo costs, in addition to other considerations. A quick scan of Midway prices (so quick, I'm not even sure that ALL factors are standardized) : 45 ACP 230 Grain Full Metal Jacket 17.29 40 S&W 165 Grain Full Metal Jacket $14.29 357 Magnum 125 Grain Jacketed Soft Point $20.99 .357SIG 125 gr Full Metal Jacket $20.49 Might not make enough difference, particularly if you roll your own, but it's worth looking at.

| Are you kidding me? For a joke I bid $70 for their 45, and won the darned thing. Even tough it was half plastic the thing weighed a ton. The trigger pull was atrocious, and I was almost certain to get at least one jam per clip, and sometimes three or four. Got rid of that pig as fast as I could, and bought me my first 1911. |
