| mouse gun vs majors
Being retired and surfing the net as my work place now, I was on another forum where I found this topic mouse guns vs majors. I am a fan of small calibers but one of the posters gave this web site which really is about what protection is your car. Very little, bullet penetration and damage to the people in the car is going to happen. Made me think about the officer that is using his car door as a shield. :-[ The Box O' Truth - Ammo Penetration Testing Clicked on Books o truth then Buick o truth The truth seems to be with the 12 gauge slug or buckshot, or the 30-06. I started on firearms.com reading the articles. As most of you know I only have a 38 Spl. but have dreams and one of those is a Bersa's Thunder in a .380. The author does state a few reasons to carry the mouse gun. :-/ Oz

In regards to direct aimed fire by a somewhat competant shooter I would equate the effectiveness of a car as cover to a dense bush. However in a fire fight anything is better than nothing. If your looking for a mouse gun You can do a lot worse than a .380 and i'm a big fan of the bersa. If your looking for an effective CCW auto I wouldn't go less than a 9MM. |

Oxford yes I'm still in Bolivia but forced into retirement. The School where I worked has lost a lot of students due to the unrest in this country. Several people are looking at a strong possibility of a civil war, fostered by the current President and Vice President. Both in Castro and Chavez's camp. Income at the school dropped so layoffs were in order. I was one of the last, but next year may see more. I and my family went to western North Carolina to look for work and see if we could live off my SS and IBM retirement. I was very disappointed in what we found economically. In that area lot of industry has moved or closed. Salaries are in the 7.00 to 8.50 per hour. Very little is made in the U.S.A. My age, 66, did not help. There are a lot of latinos filling jobs in NC and whites are given supervisor or non laborer jobs. Maybe we went to the wrong place but I was offered a part time job at Toys R Us for Christmas. My son was offered a truck driver job but he had no experience driving in the U.S.A. and needed to have a commercial license. North Carolina is one beautiful place a cool climate and air quality were what we were looking for and that area seemed good plus Asheville is a good size city and growing. The people seem real nice, but the cost of living is a bit high. Having not worked in the states for the last 20 plus years my retirement is really low. I can live here on it but not in the states. Anyway as I stated surfing the net is now my work. I down load books and read them. DC comics has a lot of Superman comics to read. I spend more time on forums and looking up hunting, fishing, and firearms information. Oz

I like mouse guns for warm weather where concealment clothing isnt a good option or where real deep concelament is needed. I dont feel undergunned carring my Beretta 21A in .22 LR. then again i fire upwards of 10,000 rounds of .22 a year in practice. Mouse guns are designed as a retreat weapon to get you away from the threat, not engage it. If you want to carry a mouse gun make sure you practice with it enough to make good shots while retreating.

To me anything under .40 caliber in an auto is a mouse gun. That does not mean I wouldn't carry a 9mm or .380 but with the smaller compact and subcompact autos available these days I'm sticking to .40 and up.
