I try to stay away from gun mfgs that have a long long history of problems both legal and with their guns. Taurus hasn't had that sure their early models and runs of guns had some problems but they fixed it, no other company can turn out a brand new product for them and say there's no problems with it at all, no failures. Hi-point I think is the poor-working man's line of gun, where all they need is to protect their family. I like how they put out a sporting carbine. But Jiminez, Bryco, Jennings I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them.

i tell ya what i bought a ja 9 and the gun shot real good,it shot better then most guns a level above ,its a solid gun has some weight but u dont feel the recoil much, ive put about a 180 rounds thru it now and it is very accurate ,i hit metal targets at the range of about 50yds and hit it every time.so this little gun does work you may have to do some minor adj,s but it will make a good shooter.now as far as parts i guess we will see if they hold.i figure about 500 rounds thru her then ill take it apart and see the damage if it holds up i concider it a good gun. also i did add a hogue #17001 grip -fit well and made it look some what better looking and the gun looks good just the grips need to go! so i would rate my ja9 - as to this point a 6.5 on a scale 1-10. and rate the final after 500 rounds.

So what i hear is people saying its a decent gun and that they have not had problems with thiers (like me) and people who say "Oh man I heard those things randomly EXPLODE and kill babies and stuff" and "oh man my friend has one and HATES it" No one is really looking for info here. Its just hating/defending. Although the 1 post wonders are suspicious.
*Edited* Had problems with my magazines but 10 minutes of commonsense allowed me to fix the problem.

well ya really cant compare the bryco to the ja9.if you really look at the 2 guns the ja9 is diffrent then the brycos, metal, finish and the accuracy is way better with ja9.i had a jenning/bryco and i could hit crap with it and i mean nothing.so there is a diffrence. id look at the end of the barrel on a bryco and i could see play between the slide and barrel and on my ja9 there is very little if none also i feel safer shooting the ja9 then i did back in the day shooting the other 2brands this gun feels good built solid has good weight.but if ya have large hands this is not for you!this for a medium build man or an older large youth.

I suppose if you looked hard enough, you could find someone who had a bad experience with any high priced custom pistol on the market. By the same token, if you looked hard enough you could find someone that had a good experience with the cheapest made pistol on the market. My wife has a .25 Raven pistol which she bought over 35 years ago at a time when neither of us had any knowledge of handguns, much less semi-autos. Since then, I have learned about the Raven's reputation & have been told by gun dealers that I should fill it with cement & bury it in my back yard. Well I won't do it. It served her well on one occasion when she was accosted outside a place of business with the business's daily receipts in her hand. The BG ran at the sight of it, so did not require actually firing it at the time. There was no such thing as a permit to carry in Texas at the time, so it was a total shock to the BG. That is one reason I am so convinced that concealed carry is best. We have shot a full box of ammo through it with no failures at all. The only way I have been able to get it to jam is when hand cycling because it can't seem to eject the full weight of an unfired shell. Has never failed to feed or eject when shooting it. No, I would not recommend anyone buy a Raven, much less depend on it for self defense. Nor, will I ever buy another one. But get rid of this one or never fire it again?? No way!

This is a good point. The new Jimenez line made in Nevada, while looking similar to the older version made in CA, are not the same gun.

But I'd like to know what proof you have of this, comparing the old design with the bad rep to the new one that is supposedly up to snuff. Photos would be nice to support your position.

well i my self have no proof of the older cali made ja9 gun,but i did see something on utube with a fella taking it apart and to be honest it looked diffrent? the ones now have a more rugged outdoor look no gloss finish i assume make it look diffrent.any how the ja9 i have seems to be built for some hard shooting.its surely not built like a bryco the ones from back in in the day felt light and the pins and sears looked to be smaller in size.but next week end ill put another 200 rounds thru her and ill be almost done with my testing but im going for 500 round mark before the test is done.so as of now 180 rounds have been shot and not a fault one! and im using fmj&steel next 200 rounds will be fmj&brass then the last will be mixed.

They were FORCED out of California because of the Lawsuit and not meeting Ca. gun Safety standards....hence all the Machinery was moved across the Ca/Nevada Border so Production could resume...It is pretty much the same gun with minor changes...dont bet your Life with one unless you are a gangbanger...Then Go for it !!!

in my opinion i say a decent gun so far.accuracy is good the weight is tollerable the feel is ok but i would say buy a hogue grip this will give you better feel and control,i suggest 9 rounds in the mag then after a couple hundred shots load to capacity. im shooing 500 rounds before i even break it down and clean it.and you may have to make minor adj,s as you go along.also start with fmj then move to jhp as with most things these guns need broke in .and also stay away from +p ammo better safe than sorry! as i stated before im still in testing stage but will leave final thoughts when im done.thanks
