| Laser grips or no?
I've just about decided to buy a Kimber .45 Ultra Carry. I'm debating spending the extra $200 for the model with laser grips. Any pro's and con's?

I took the Laser Off My Colt .45...You just couldn't see it in Bright daylight and at night, you need a Bright flashlight to aquire the target...So it really worked the best in medium dim light close range, and Indoors. Doesn't the New Kimbers Have a mount built in to the front for an attachable laser...they are a lot cheaper than 200 bucks. Thats a lot of ammo ! Rich Oh,FYI... and a visible laser is highly visible back to the weapon to an enemy with Night Vision !

I was thinking I would use it more for practice than anything else. If I had to draw on something in a hurry I suspect I would completely disregard the laser and let instincts take over. And my night vision is really good, so if someone was moving around in my house at night I wouldnt want to alert them, just spray them. Hmmmm. Nothing better than allot of good old fashioned practice. Good points!

You're right Billy, red lasers are invisible unless bouncing off of something, but GREEN lasers are not. They can easily be seen back to the source in normal light and dark. This is how they caught a guy shooting a powerful green laser at an aircraft near Sea-Tac Int'l Airport not too long ago. The laser got one pilot and temporarily blinded him while the other saw where it was coming from and reported it.

I have a couple of laser pointers and you can see them clearly day or night, but not like a light saber. If someone saw it move across the wall they'd know the gig was up.

I have a Crimson Trace laser grip on my S&W 642 snubby. Personally, I like it. It is great for fast acquisition. If I am knocked to the ground, all I have to do is point and shoot. No aiming necessary. It works fine indoors and out, daylight and night. I had it just recently outside at night when a drunken fool decided to use my neighbor's front yard as a rest area. She called me and I visited him with a 1,000,000 candle power spotlight and my snubby. No problem seeing the target without the spotlight, the laser showed up just fine, no problems. I like the intimidation factor of the laser beam on a target. I am hardly worried about anyone seeing back to me since I doubt I will be in a smoke filled room when I use it. Most burglars around here don't have McGuyver goggles. My cats love the laser dot, too.

I was talking about a NIGHT VISION SCOPE or Monocular...Not how you see in the dark with your eyes...LOL.A Night vision device shows the beam right back to the gun...like a pointer ! Just additional INFO.... Rich

| Yup! Most night vision goggles see into the near-infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum, which means you can also use your TV remote (or any IR remote for that matter) as a flashlight for your goggles; don't need no expensive IR lamp. ;-)

night vision can't see the beam unless its foggy or really dusty. its like normal white light, you can,t see the actual beam just the place where it hits a surface. Also most black and white cameras can see IR too, color can not. Just had to clarify.
