Recamended auto for women

I'm really out of touch on the hand gun scene for women. I had a woman ask me to recamend a pistol for her to buy and I'm ashamed to say that I drew a blank.Help!

my shooting buddy's wife likes his baby eagle in 9MM, but if they plan on limpwristing it it'll jam up a lot, i was doing that because it's very easy on the recoil, but that will jam it up a lot.

depending on the purpose, i also find the Walther P22 to be a nice plinker, but i wouldn't grab it over the baby eagle for self defense

My wife managed to limp wrist every auto I had her try into jamming. She stated she wanted a light weight revolver in .22LR. Thinking it would be better for her to have a mouse gun with her than something bigger she left at home(and she would have), I got her a S&W317 Airweight 8 shot 22 that weighs 9.9OZ and she has it with her all the time. I got her Crimson Trace grips for it also. She don't leave home without it!

rookie you can reccomend a KelTec 32 Auto it's light weight very easy to conceal, looks nice and perfect for a woman.
But it's the LOUDEST lil Bastid when you shoot it. LOL. Thats what my wife uses now.

I'd suggest a Walther PPK, Makarov, PA-64, FEG PA-63, or a Sig P-230 or P-232. All are compact, fairly light, and provide enough punch to make a bad guy think twice.

It ultimately boils down to what she's most comfortable with. Some ranges have guns you can try out, let her go by and shoot a few of them and see which one she likes best.

My wedding anniversary was on Tuesday. My husband just bought me a Ruger Mark III slab side 22 LR Competition pistol with a Nikon scope.

Woo Hoo. I'm happy with it. It's just for plinking at the range. Maybe for Christmas I'll pick a CC gun.

Previously he got me a deer rifle for Valentine's Day and a Shotgun for Christmas.

Well I ain't too sure about other women, but my Missus adores her .38 Armscor colt mimic and she's a darned good shot with it too. She says and I quote "There is just too many doodads all over your .45!" So I bought her the simplest and safest design within my budget.

rookie1129: Sir; what a mess you have gotten yourself into.
My simple remedy for said situation
1. What is primary purpose
2. What are your concerns
3. What are you thinking
4. What are the preconceived opinions
5. Do you have a particular in mind
6. Would you go to a range with me Quote [bring family]
7. Lifestyle
8. Children
9. Legal thinking and ramifications
10. Will YOU PRACTICE
11. Are YOU willing to PRACTICE

good Luck with your lady friends
Voice your concerns

This is kinda off thread a bit but here in Arkansas if you use a revolver to qualify with, when getting your Concealed Carry Permit you are limited to only carrying a revolver.

If you use a semi-auto you can carry either one.

Isn't that stupid ? So if it be the same in other states, be mindful of that when suggesting to some one what firearm they should buy...A.H

My Wife tried several and the one she wanted and shoots all the time, and is a good shot with it, was the Ruger 345.

Well...I'm going to stick my neck out and let you shooters chop at it! I carry a Beretta .25 auto because I am lousy with a .38 snubby, and I don't want to carry anything larger than a pocket pistol. It is completely reliable and very accurate. If you explain the ballistics of .22's and .25's she may like one, but still go in knowing what she has compared to a .38. Most of the women that I have taken shooting have opted for the minor calibers. I like the .25 because it is a centerfire. It also cycles better than a .22 pocket pistol.

A fellow shooter was at the sandpit trying to get his wife acclimated to a .45, as that was all he had. I had a .22 Beretta that I let her fire. He ended up buying her one for her purse.

seems like women like the hammerless revolvers alot. The S&W .357 or .38 hammerless snubnose, or the like for example.

I have a little .357 mag the wife loves to shoot. but she just got a S&W .45 auto with laser sights that she also likes to shoot. so just tell your friend to go handle a bunch of different pistols until she find one thats comfortable. the wife must of looked at 35-40 before we got her the .45

Yea. It's really a tough call when it comes to guns. I think that you really have to try something out or have some idea of what you are looking for. The purpose it will serve is also of utmost importance. I for one though like the Kel Tec's they are nice reliable and not over the top on the price. I think it's a quality piece that is easy to handle.

You know honestly, the criteria for a lady's gun doesn't differ all that much from a man's gun. The only difference is that the lady is thought of as needing a more discrete weapon because of her lifestyle and usually a less powerful one because of her physical limitations and dexterity. This obviously does not apply to every lady and thus, the firearm of choice must reflect that. There are ladies out there who are happy to blast off a .44 magnum or try out her husband's new FAL, but for the rest of these ladies... a .38 revolver with a barrel length of no more than 3'' should do. It's simple to operate, and adequately powerful without overwhelming recoil and noise.

Now, that's just the default position I turn to when asked about a "lady's gun." If we are talking about automatics, there's plenty to choose from just are there are revolvers. To me, something she can operate with complete confidence is more valuable than a big magnum that scares the crap out of her. You're looking for something with smaller grips that fit the lady's hand and for the automatic, you probably don't need a round much more powerful than .40 S&W. But again, it's just whatever she can handle.

Contrary to popular belief, I don't think a blow-back like the PPK is a good choice for the average lady. Most that have handled my .380 PPK/S haven't been able to pull back the slide. Blow-backs are very vulnerable to those limp-wristed jams. This may not be true with the Makarov, though. I've heard it's very reliable. There's lot's of good sub-compact automatics out there with polymer frames and what-not. I haven't read any suggestions so far that I'd disagree with. The Kel-Tec is just fine although some might prefer something bigger than a 32. Personally, I'd be horrified of that little thing.

I've heard a lot of good about the Kahr 9mm's and their reputation with women. Um, and I guess all those little Sigs and Glocks are great choices. Just depends on price and of course if it's possible, make sure your lady shoots some of these guns before deciding on one to carry. No point in spending all that money on something that was only suitable for her in theory alone.

I think Agent 006 nailed it. I have a lady friend who keeps a 2"Taurus 445 DAO in .44 spl in her purse. She isn't the least intimidated by recoil.
