My RIA's, new gun porn!

Here's a couple shots of my Rock Island .45's. I just picked up the Compact model last night, haven't shot it yet. The hammer and beavertail are perks, they're not supposed to be on this model from what I've heard, but RIA mistakenly made some like this and shipped them to Sarco, and I got one!

I just picked up my first 1911 today, it too is an RIA. It's a bone stock standard full size, so it has the features of your upper one with the grips of the lower one.

Yep, mine had the same grips too. The ones pictured are Crimson Trace Laser Grips. You're gonna love it, but watch the hammer...it'll bite the web of your hand when the slide cycles.

I have been curious about the RIA, the only thing keeping me from buying one is that fact that you shouldn't shoot +P out of them.

Who said that? They're not alloy frames, they're cast steel. Should be able to handle +P's just fine.

That's what a several gun store owners have told me and these people know their stuff. I wont doubt that you can, but I am not sure I would feed a steady diet of it like I do with my Springfield. Just a thought

I would imagine adding a stronger aftermarket barrel and a stronger recoil spring (perhaps a stronger recoil rod, also) would alleviate any issues of firing hotter loads. Even if they weren't designed for them.

One range report - coming up!

Took The Pup to a range today to see if she'd go BANG. Ran about 1-1/2 boxes of Aguilar 230 gr. FMJ through it, this is the very first 8 rounds I fired through it, at 7 yards. I think it's pretty good for me, considering my lack of target shooting experience and my trifocals. Most of you guys are shooters, I'm basically just a plinker......

Bought a box of 230 gr. Win. Ranger SXT's today for carry ammo, so I ran a stick of those through right before I left the range, just to make sure it would eat them. Again, 7 yds. They're a little more scattered, but that might be me too. At least they're all in the black.

Overall, I really like The Pup. Very nice to shoot and comfortable to carry. Damn nice gun for ~$380! Need to buy some more ammo......

Nice looking pistols you got there. How much did those run you?

Each was roughly $380. The GI was $379.99 at a Farm store, not sure of the total with tax. I knew nothing about 1911's when I bought it, other than the familiar profile and history. At that price I knew I'd better get one though.

The Pup came from Sarco, at $340, plus shipping and FFL transfer fee brought it to just a shade under $380. Sarco has the GI's for $329.

That sounds like a pretty good deal. Maybe I should get one one of these days to keep my springfield company.
