Kahr vs S&W

I am still trying to choose what hand gun I want to carry with my permit to carry. I have narrowed it down to the Kahr CW40 and the S&W 642 .38 special. Any suggestions?

That 642 is an Airweight. You may not like shooting that. .38 snubbies have a lot of kick. The grips on the 642 are better ergonomically than the old skinny wooden grips. You can get larger grips, which really help me, but that defeats the purpose of concealability to an extent.

I also like to be able to choose a DA or SA shot. Every shot might not be up close and personal. It may be out to 25 yards and personal. I would not like to do that with a DA only Airweight.

That said, I sometimes carry an all steel S&W snubby and feel very confident in it. Try to find somebody that has an Airweight that will let you shoot it. It would be a bummer to find that you did not like the gun or could not hit with it after spending hundreds of dollars.

I recently got a Beretta Tomcat in .32. No, it isn't a .38, but I really like it. Dr. Larry K also has one and told me that he liked his. Recoil is a lot less than the .38 snubby in a package the same size, but without the cylinder bulge.

DrewNmn: Sir; 'Triggerjerks' suggestions are right on.
Give considerations to the SW 638
best of both worlds: single action or double action
I carry different at different times but always seem to reach of the 638. front or back pocket
For fun and shooting @100yds surprising.
If I found a 'bad guy' @100yds? I'd leave
Should he/she/it be around our house.
Bad things can happen to bad people.
Sir; you mentioned the Kahr. My shooting buddy has one and my experiences with a sturdy; well built; flat to your side; fairly accurate; good handling; bucks a little; I enjoy shooting it.
Would I trade my 638 for one? No. Hardheaded? no. just like mine.
