I have a few specific questions

A friend of mine who is very experienced with guns and ammo and got me started again on the whole shooting thing found out I was looking for a good practice gun. Im not big into the .45 as I have a hairline fracture in my wrists and the .45 automatic pistol and the .44 mag irritate it something fierce. So anyway my friend hears Im looking for a plinker. he came across a .22 pistol. six shot capacity single action (I think) you have to half cock it to load it but it wont fire half cocked, safety is in the rear. it also comes with a mag cyl. its comfortable to shoot, and kinda fun but nothing to write home about. my concern is he wants to sell it to me dirt cheap. dirt cheap = $40.00

Im convinced that he could get more for it but havent found much information about it online, and Ive never heard of the manufacturer. so basically Im looking for price range and any kind of quality rating on a gun whos markings are as follows.

tanfoglio armi FLLI mdl TA 76

its also got a fixed sight but one of the few websites I ran across indicated that might be correctable (it has a tendency to throw a little high)

if you have info about this gun type so I dont end up ripping my friend off, please e me or post here. email durandal5@gmail.com thanks.

It sounds to me like a Ruger Single Six and for that price, I would snatch it up in a heartbeat. My rough price gestimate for one in nice condition would be in the $200-300 range. This may be a little conservative.

Tanfoglio is an Italian company that makes (or made, I'm not sure) medium-quality guns. The few Tanfoglios I've seen weren't junk. They weren't anything special, but they weren't junk.

If you like the gun, buy it. For forty bucks how can you go wrong?

I'd buy anything that goes bang for 40 bucks.

$40 is probably a fair price for this. If he tried to sell it to a dealer or trade it, that's about all he'd get. I had a pretty worn but functional Ruger Single Six and the dealer gave me $100 for it.

My advice is to get a used Ruger MK II. They are all over the place up here, and they go for about $200 in very fine condition, less if they are worn. That's a great .22 for general shooting or close up small game. Also, if all you have is a Ruger MK II, you can use it for defense. Though I am not saying turn the $40 gun down.

Buy it, $40 don't sound bad, ask him if you can shoot it and if you like it buy it.

Thumbs up

The Tanfoglio TA76 was imported from Italy in the 70's by EXCAM of Hialeah, Florida. They came in blued and chromed - mine is chromed. Grips are black or white plastic - mine has the white (now yellowed with age).
It is the direct ancestor of the current US-made Heritage Arms Roughrider - the cylinder 'almost' fits!
The TA-76 is a good budget-priced .22LR/.22MAG revolver - definitely not junk. I paid $25 on a private sale, and recently saw a couple at the gunshow priced at $125.
Accuracy is okay - fully as good as my Dad's .22LR High Standard Doublenine and my buddy's Roughrider. I have outshot a guy here at the range using a longer-barreled Ruger Singlesix - due to his lack of experience more so than gun quality.
Some folks don't like the manual safety on a single-action revolver, but I like it - it allows me to safely 'dry fire' it without damage.
The frame is the 'Zamak Alloy (zinc), and the barrel and cylinders are steel. It's more than strong enough for the .22LR and Magnum loads.
The trigger is pretty good for a cheaper gun. I did end up modifying the sights - a Colt 1911 rear sight (had to file open the dovetail) and a Marlin .22 rifle front sight. Looks funky, but it works for me! And I'm not worried about adversely affecting "collector value".
Since mine looks like a sixties kid's 'capgun', I have enhanced that image with a funky little western holster with big silver studs. I was once shooting the primer-only Colibri loads from it - "pop, pop, pop".
A guy asks me what kind of 'pellet pistol' I had? I popped in the .22MAG cylinder, and "BANG!" I told him, "A good one!"

Cool

thank you all for your info. so what im gathering about this tanfoglio in short then is its not a colt but it is sturdy and will serve my purpose more than adequately. much appreciated I think Ill offer him sixty though as his is coming with the mag cyl, and he made a holster for it himself.

If you feel bad about the price give him a little more for it. I sold my ruger blackhawk in .45LC to my buddy and I told him I would sell it to him for $220 because that is what the gun dealer said they would give me for it. He gave me $300 for it.

And I have done the same for him, I bought a 350 motor from him that he said he would sell me for $50, I felt that wasn't quite enough so I gave him $100 for it (which I think is still underpriced once I found out it was a 4 bolt main).

Btw just thought id thank you all again for your input. turns out, he didnt charge me anything for it..... early christmas present, he just wanted to know if I wanted it first. I figure I wouldnt have gone to all the lengths I did to find info on it if I didnt. its sitting happily here in my gun case. my first handgun. I am currently looking to see if it will take custom grips if only because the grips fit just a little small.

so thank you all again. and Big dog, if I could impose on you for some specifics on how I fix that sight issue, thatd be awesome. thanks again/

i was looking for information on this gun I just bought, and found this thread and forum. it's good to be here and I wanted to thank you for the information. I'm a gun enthusiast too, although far from being a gunsmith.

see you around.

$40 sounds about right, Excam imports were low end, I don't think the price is that big a favor. Tangfoglio's were cheap when new, quality was ????
