I read on another forum where a guy posted that his truck gun was an SKS. ![]() I kinda figured I would have a hard time explaining the extra 3 magazines for my 9mm (Don't usually have those in the truck but if you were following the recent court case here in Panama City you will understand). What do you carry in your vehicle? Any LEOs with an opinion? What would you do if you pulled someone over for a routine traffic stop and the person had an SKS, Ak, or AR with several loaded magazines? |

Well I am a retired LEO, but if they were carrying it legally in their vehicle according to your state's law, there is nothing you can do except say, have a nice day sir.

I hate to get off topic here, but what exactly is going on in PC? My parents and two little sisters live there and they have said nothing about it.

Martin Lee Anderson Trial Black Teenager Dies in Juvinal Boot Camp Bay County Medial Examiner rules death from complications from Sickly Cell. NAACP Medical Examiner says he was beaten to death. Head ME in the US rules death from complications from Sickly Cell. Florida Pays 5Million to the kids Mom Boot camp officers were on trial. All officers found Not Guilty. I was honestly expecting Rodney King type Mayhem. Thankfully it did not happen. I just haven't removed the extra defenses from the truck yet. |

I would think so long as it was legal there would be no problems. Here in AL I could carry a .50 BMG Barrett behind the seat (If I could afford one). I have given thought to an SKS or similar behind the seat. Just don't want to seem to paranoid to my friends. Also, the more you have in there, the bigger the lose if some knucklehead breaks into your truck. I already have a $600 pistol in there. Not sure I would want to donate anything more. Also, unless you have some type of gun rack, it would take a long time to get a rifle into action. |

| Same thoughts here. I lost a brand new laptop one night. Got home late and had to carry one of the boys in. I was going to go back out and get it so I did not lock the van. I forgot about it until the next morning then it was gone.

I have my carry gun. It's either the .38 snubby or more often the Beretta .32 auto. I do not believe that I am gonna be in a position where I need a carbine or rifle. I like to keep things light and simple. I do keep an extra box of ammo in the car. That is insurance in case I would hit a roadblock on the back roads that I drive at night. If I would bail out, and head into the trees, I would like extra ammo. If I had a hi-cap magazine gun, I would have the ammo in extra mags.

I carry my stock PA-63. I'm eventually going to do a spring job on it and build some decent grips, but as is, I trust it implicitly. I've put almost 1000 rds through it with no problems except for a batch of handloads that weren't seated quite deep enough and hung in the mag. It's also cheap enough that i won't be heartbroken if it gets confiscated or stolen.

| Senior Member | here in NC if you can carry a loaded firearm in PLAIN VIEW of you vehicle. that means an officer has to be able to see it if you get pulled. other wise you need a CWP. when i started I was suprised the number of citizens who carry in the auto. never had a problem just make sure the officer is made aware a soon as he aprouches your car. it would be difficult to carry a loaded rifle though you would realy wont to carry that out of sight. my suggestion there would be carry it unloaded ( so it is not a conceaeld weapon) behind or under the seat and the ammo on stripper clips or in mags ready to be loaded. that way you are just 'transporting' a firearm to and from one location to the other.

I have only been pulled over one time while I had a weapon in the vehicle and the first thing I did was advise the officer I have a weapon in the vehicle (while both hands are still on the steering wheel). He asked for it and I got it out of the glove box and gave it to him (not sure if I will do that again but that is another discussion). He took it back to his car while running the plate etc. He let me go with a warning (I am sure that it helped that wen he asked where I was going I told him my father in law Lt. XXXXX from the Panama City Beach's house But I wonder if I had an AR with 3-4 loaded magazines how he would have handled it.

I would carry a shotgun in my truck something like a SAIGA 12 gauge, if I felt something more than my COLT 45. Sometimes though I do carry my FNH 5.7 it has a twenty round clip weighs 3 pounds and has the power of a rifle. My best freind swears by his cheap 25. I have shot it its verry accurate and a 25 in your pocket is better than a 45 left at home. Fl captainbill if you feel that you need an assault check out the FNH 5.7 its a great gun accurate at 100 yards with almost zero trajectory drop.

| On a routine basis I don't think it is needed. I was just wondering if it was common for people to carry long guns in their vehicle when they were not heading to/from the range.

My only long gun right now is my remington 700 lol. No real point in carrying that in the car, I doubt I will need a rifle for "sniper" tactics lol.

Right now I carry my Rossi .38 special snubby in my Jeep, sometimes I leave my 18.5" barreled 12g in the back, And my 10/22 in the wife's Jetta. I'd like to pick up a high point in .45 acp for both my vehicles. (extra car door penetration should the need arise.) and that way I'm not bummin if they get confiscated or stolen. And I have been pulled over twice with weapons in the car, the first time was late at night and I allowed my person to be searched for the officers safety, (I had a loaded shotgun in the car.) I left with a verbal warning about taking corners to fast. The second time I had a gun taken away. They made such a big deal about the gun that they forgot to give me my ticket. (I'll trade a junk $70 shotgun for a $140 ticket any day.) They took the gun because I was in violation of a local city law that I was not aware of. (I had just moved to a neighboring town out in the country.)

the key is to have it out of "ready acces to the driver" your guess at what that is is as good as mine. but that is what the statutes say. and yes a locked glove box is considered concealed but from what our department laywer tell us unloaded and behind/under the seat of a truck where you have to get out to retreave it and load it is not concealed of couse you could always find that rouge officer and or District Attourney.

I think you meant to say an "UNlocked" glove box, as a weapon in a Locked glove box is not considered concealed. Never has been by any court in NC or by the Statue itself, i.e that is exactly what the "out of ready access" to the driver means, as he would have to turn the car off, take the keys out and then unlock the box. That's why in a Locked glove box and a locked trunk are the ONLY two places where under NC law you are 100% within complanice with the NC CCW law. Also, Yes behind the seat of a pickup MAY not be considered CCW by SOME judges. The same applies to a hatchback car as the hatcback area by NC law is treated much like a trunk area. NC law also definds "concealed" as if the weapon is in readily available access to the driver or others in the vehicle and cannot be seen upon approach by the officer. Thus that means in some cases lying in the open on the front seat of the car a pistol "could" be legally concealed by NC Law. NC CCW law is VERY open to interpertation by both the officer and the courts. Last edited by Starsky; 10-30-2007 at 06:20 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
