Does anyone have any info on a company called RG Industries out of Miami Florida? I'm looking for generalized company history and who they patterned their revolvers after - if any. I have a .38S that I want to upgrade the grips on. Thank you.
The RG I remember sold guns made by Rohm Gmbh in West Germany. The guns were generally zinc-framed cheapos, referred to as "Roscoes" by the law enforcement community. A couple were somewhat better. I liked my .357 RG57, but got worried about it when I learned of the low-grade material they were made of, and I sold it. They seemed to be very loosely based on the S&W design.

Very ugly, cheaply made and finished. The only upgrade i'd do is get rid of it and buy a good gun that you could trust your life with. I wouldn't trust an RG...sorry.

I've got several other pistols that are life defenders. This is a plinker that my fiance had before I met her. It's basically a target practice pistol (sentimental value for her), however, one of the plastic grips has a crack in it and I wanted to replace it. Thanks for your responses. More than likely I'll ship the grips off to have them reproduced.
RG was the lorcin of their day. back in 1968 i bought an RG10 22, was the best i could afford on a privates pay it did launch the 22 bullets in the right direction, thats all it did. later i had an RG66 was like a scaled down colt SAA. it was pretty good for a cheap 22. back in the mid 70's they offered a 44 magnum DA. got a fair review in G&A. then they folded.
I'm a owner of one RG38s which was my father's backup handgun when he was in the secret service but it needs a few parts so does anyone out knows where i can get the parts i need out there for it..I really like the gun and it shoots very well but these parts are about to brake if used anymore so can i get some feed back with info on someone who has parts for my gun..
wow this thread is old . Im looking for a manual or something that can tell me whether or not this 38 special is rated for +P ammo. I have a rg ind model 31 38 special and just got ammo from walmart but noticed the +p after I bought it and dont know if its safe to use in it.

I wouldn't take a chance with a Rohm and +P ammunition, droid. I have a S&W Model 10 in .38 Special. The shop owner I bought it from ran the serial number and told me that according to S&W, it's certified for +P ammo; but my Model 10 was made out of good American steel in the early 1970s. I don't know if a zinc frame revolver would stand up to the stresses if you fired +P ammo out of it.
Rohm revolvers are generally regarded as being about one step removed from Saturday Night Specials in terms of quality. They'll do for plinking with standard velocity and standard pressure ammunition, but they aren't something you should trust your life to if you have a better option available, if you see what I'm trying to say here. If I were you, I'd take the +P ammo back to Wal-Mart, tell them you wanted standard-vel, bought +P by mistake and swap it for standard .38 Special ammo.
i like RG, but they have some limitation and hot ammo is one of them. if you do shoot it get non +p.
the owners manual just covers loading and un loading, i found and then lost a pdf file of a manual. if i find it again i will post it for you.

my fiirst pistol in 1973 was a rg-23 s-l-lr snubnosed revolver. shot it 100s of times with all kinds of ammo. killed many rats, snakes, birds and groundhogs with it. carried it on my person until 1982 when i replaced it with a beretta 950bs. still got it.
BEATS being unarmed???? Only If your opponant is close enough to take some of the shrapnel when it blows up in your hand! Get rid of that piece of junk. It would barely make an acceptable troutline weight.
You certainly do NOT want to shoot +P ammo in any RG firearm!
At one time the RG .22 revolver was chambered for shorts and longs only,not long rifle.
My brother had a little RG(dont know the model) it was chambered in shorts only. The little gun was accurate. I definately wouldn't want to have to protect myself with it though.

On the model RG 38S, what holds the drum advancement lever? Drum will advance if you point it down, and will not if you point it up. What is the proper name for the parts, and how do you replace the broken parts?
RG used to stand for "rotten gun". However, I had a 22 way back in time, and it worked pretty good.There was some kind of govt tests on several guns years ago, to determine their quality, and an RG 22 beat out some top drawer guns in function and reliability.
For instance, they had a Charter Undercover 38; on the first shot, the "unbreakable" berylium copper firing pin------- broke!
Not to disparage Charter and uplift RG; I've had several Charters in 22, 38 and 44, the old ones and the newer ones, and would take one hands down over an RG.
