| With the Walther, expect to pay for the name. I have the Browning camper and I must say it is an exceptional fit. The grip is outstandingly comfortable and the simplicity of the design is eye catching. I absolutely love it. No misfires as of yet. Dead eye accurate. I love it. |

| Browning and lots of practice Use the money saved on the Browning for lots of practice. Walther is famous but pricy and I doubt you really get that much more for the name. Also, you will most likely have trouble getting parts for a Walther if you ever have a problem. |

| All Walther owners I know say they are ammo picky - like the hotter stuff and choke on lower velocity stuff. I like my Browning, partly due to the fact the grip and ergonomics match my Colt M1991A1. It's heavier than the Walther, and thus more stable, I think. The Browning is a plinker/target pistol, the Walther is a scaled-down service pistol design. Different niches.

| I've looked around and found that the P22 and Buck Marks are in the same price range. Low 300's to High 200's. Just saying. I've also heard that the P22 is picky on ammo and like the High Velocity ammo and has cycling problems with the lower velocity stuff. I personally would probably get the P22 because I favor its Look over the Buck Mark. As for which is best sounds like you got your answer, The Buck Mark.

| We have one of each. The p22 with the short barrel is much more compact. It is finnicky on ammo. With the right ammo it shoots good. The Buckmark is bigger and heavier. My camper model is better for just shooting I think. It can shoot cheaper ammo if desired. is more accurate and less expensive. If you are going to keep it in your pocket the walther is better. If you are going to hunt or target the the browning I think is better. The browning has a better trigger and has a metal frame. The walther is plastic/composite, even the barrel is only 1/16" steel. Here is mine: ![]() It was 300 plus tax as the local dealer Last edited by ouch; 12-06-2007 at 07:42 PM. |

| Good Choice G&D. I have a Walther P22 and as stated, it's ammo picky. A lot of 22's tend to be that way, though in my humble opinion. Mine made one trip back to Walther to have the extractor replaced. Great people to deal with, but I don't think you'd be buying any better name than the Browning label. Look at their military history, Ma Deuce(50 cal), BAR, 1911 (yes, it's officially a Colt, but it was designed by JM Browning. I shot a Browning Buckmark today in a heavy snowfall....just about like ouch's and without a doubt it is one sweet gun. If I had it all to do over again, I would definitely buy a Browning over a Walther P22. Good luck finding the right one for you. |

| Personally, I love the Buckmark. Also consider a Sig Trailside if you can find one.

| I had the P22. I sold it. I have never sold any other gun but this one just wasn't fun for me to shoot. At first I was going to keep it around for kids to shoot but it throughs brass everywhere, sometimes on your head. It scared kids to shoot it so I sold it off. I have never shot the buckmark but just the rep and feel of the gun make me want one. It is on the back burner right now cause I am trying to purchase some other guns right now. I have a Sig Mosquito. They are nice. They are also ammo picky. I only shoot CCI minimags out of mine. They cost more than the really cheap stuff but it keeps to shooting and cycling correctly.

| Two other considerations would be a Ruger 22/45 or a Beretta Neos. Personally, I want an old Whitney Wolverine.

| Troy I like your posts but get that barrel out of my face. Around here you would get a muzzle full of lead. Handsome Rob has a much more polite way of greeting his friends. ![]() You can change. Quote:
the p22 has a silent recall on it for the extractor. The new one makes brass stay out of your face. A call to S&W will get you fixed up. Never shot a mosquito but a friend has one and likes his. I think he got his when they were closing them out for in the low 200 dollar range. I like foreign made guns as long as they are inexpensive. Otherwise I prefer the real thing. USA. Quote:

| Troy, Olympic has finally begun producing a new polymer-framed version of the Whitney classic. I haven't shot it yet, but it looks more 'chunky' than my old Alcoa-framed Wolverine. The original is one very sleek pistol! Hard to believe it's a fifties design. It is nearly as tight-shooting as my Buckmark, far lighter and it gets some range attention. Mine was ammo finicky at first - would only cycle the odd 60 grain Aguila SSS rounds! But a little massaging of the chamber mouth fixed that. My Whitney Wolverine . . . ![]()

That picture was originally taken for my weekly newspaper column that I was going to call "Straight Shooting" or "Taking Aim" or something similar. I ended up calling it "LaPlante's Rants" instead. That picture (without the yellow and lettering) ran only one week before the newspaper got complaints. I have gotten a lot of mileage out of that picture, including t-shirts and myspace pictures, business, cards, etc. I use that avatar as my logo for my internet talk show of the same name.

| I ended up with the Beretta U22 Neos, I finally found the Browning but after comparing the Ruger 22, the Beretta and the Buck Mark , a Walther and a Smith & Wesson, I like the feel of the Baretta in my hand, it was a HARD decision between the Browning and the Beretta and one I hope I don't regret but I guess I won't know for a while. What a neat little target pistol, I didn't have a lot of time today to shoot but was able to get about 40 rounds through it and did very good with it. I think I am going to like it a lot, going to the range on Monday to shoot the heck out of it LOL. Last edited by Guns&Dobes; 12-07-2007 at 08:04 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |
