Handgun Training - let's have some fun!

The other day I asked for advice to help my (extremely dismal) handgun accuracy.

I received a lot of replies with helpful info and some encouragement to post results as others were looking for tips as well. So let's have some fun with this.

What I propose to do is shoot a target this week without first practicing, reading, changing my stance, etc. This will give us a good baseline. I'll see if I can post a picture even.

As I incorporate the training excercises we'll see how I progress. Since I stink so much we should at least see a little improvement. Right now I can't even consistently hit paper at 25 yards. I plan to use a 1911 style .45acp as the "test" pistol.

The exercises that I plan to report on:

1) Dry-firing at a white wall to practice consistent, steady, "clean" trigger pull (suggested by Troy)

2) NRA books, videos, etc on proper stance, grip, technique (suggested by nathangdad and neophyte)

3) .22lr trainer (suggested first by nathangdad, and re-affirmed by many). I'll have to buy this one, so it may be a while until I find a good deal.
My choices here are:
Ruger MkII or III Target
Ruger 22/45 since my main gun will be 1911
Browning Buckmark
1911 .22lr conversion kit like Kimber

4) Start slow and close at the range, and increase distance as I am comfortable (suggested by Troy and sniper1958)

5) Hand strengthening exercises to steady my grip and help get back on target (suggested by LiveToShoot). This will especially be helpful since I'm shooting a .45acp with a lot of recoil.

Thanks all!
Any more suggestions are still welcome! I am also looking for a good instructor in my area. We'll see if that pans out and that would be part of my report.

Sounds ambitious! Hopefully I can stick with it. Feel free to join me.

That shouldn't be necessary - I take a shower once a month whether I need it or not.

Johnnycat, don't forget the S&W Model 22A for practice pistols. They are pretty cheap and supposed to be very accurate. Plus, made in Maine
