Hi-Point pistols

Ok so im just looking for a pistol to plink around with. Hi-Point are appealing to me because of low cost all through the range of calibers. Are they reliable pistols? or are they more of a hit and miss in terms of quality? which one is the best (caliber wise)? ok ignore the first part due to some searching on here. the question of which caliber is the best is still up for grabs though.

if it is just for plinking, which is all i would depend on a High-point for, go for 9mm it is the cheapest round.

.40cal in my opinon

I own a Hi-point C-9 9mm and loved the way it shoots. I recently purchased the .40cal SW and love it even more. The simplicity of the design attracted me, then the prices. I paid $139.00 for a brand new .40cal with a 10 shot clip. Hell of a deal, and it shoots like a honey. In my opinion go for the .40cal, but you would love the 9mm as well.

i had a c.9mm it was a great little gun and i would put it right up there with my glock. it was just as accurate the only draw back is the takedown it was no field stripping this gun you have to have a punchother than that i miss it. i wanna get the .40 and another.9mm carbine before they reup the ban.

i paid around 145.00 for my c.9mm but i bought a extra mag with it . i think it was 132.00 for just the gun but that was 2 years ago i think the gun shop sells them for 139.00 . or 142.00 now and that's not bad for a gun with a warranty like they have .i sent in what was left of a .9mm carbine (just the metal parts)everything that was plastic had melted and they sent me a new one.look in the testimonials my story is in there .

C-9 is the best bet? or would you say the .40? also in terms of the power of a 9mm, what does the 9x19 compare to the 9x18?

If you just want to plink at paper and things best bet is to choose the c9 It is smaller than the others and shoots 9mm. The 45 and 40 are pretty big pieces. The 45 weighs about 42 ounces and the 9 about 34 oz.

I bought my 45 for 150 and 9 cost 130 with two mags and a nice hard case.
Best is a very hard term to define. If you don't find yours reliable they come with a good warrentee and they honor it fast. My wife had a mag go bad on her carbine and I started getting light strikes on my 9 pistol. Both were fixed in a week. I can load my 9 to charges that make it a real pussy cat with 22 like recoil. Or I can make the rounds shoot with +p+ power.
I usually use my 45 with moderate loads. Nothing too hot. Doesnt need it shooting 230 grain bullets.
Are they cool looking... no way....Just basic weapons to shoot lead. I have other weapons that have more bling. I get comments all the time from youngsters wanting to tell me how much pieces of cr*p I have and that I should spend 500 or more dollars on a gun. Their loss.
I spend several hundred per gun per year on reloading ammo. All of my guns get a workout.
Here is a vid that I took last winter of me shooting my 45. Rapid fire of course.

Hi points are absolute junk. if your worried about money, save what you have, by a .22 pistol of some sort, and make your money back just in the price of ammo. another good option if you still want stopping power is a Bersa or a CZ 75, both come in 9mm

junk?

On what criteria do you base your opinion?

If it is on beauty, you are probably right.

If it is on putting lead on the target then I and most other HP shooteres have not had that problem. Take a look at my you tube videos again.
What has been your personal experience with the HiPoint that makes you not enjoy shooting them?

The triggers on all of HPs are reasonably good. I have tested them and they all break about 5 pounds. One concern that I have heard is that the firing pin also serves as the ejector and that can be hard on firing pins.

It can be tough making a 45 work with blow back principal but HP has figured it out by making the slide heavy enough to adsorb the recoil. The down side is that the weapon becomes pretty bulky. You probably don't want the 45 for concealed carry.

What I won't tolerate on any weapon is one that doesn't work. I don't purchase a weapon for beauty. Just function. When I shoot something I want to hit it where I am aiming and when I pull the trigger.

My 9 mm and my wifes 9 carbine can lob Trail Boss powered loads of lead at paper. If you like shooting 22s then you have a pretty good match. Except that you using 125 grain bullets rather than 40. Subsonic yes.

I agree that every hand gun shooter should have a 22 pistol. Even the cheapest reloads cost something like 7 cents per round for 9mm and 8 cents for 45acp. My 22 pistol was more expensive than both of my Hi Points together. Yep it is fun to shoot.

Yeah a Bursa or CZ 75 are both look nice too although I can't comment as I don't own either.

I have owned a Hi point in 380 for years now. It has been a fine little tackle box gun. fun to shoot, fairly accurate and always dependable. I own other hand guns too but I think the hi points have a place. I have never had any trouble and have treated mine pretty hard.

I can buy the 9mm Hi Point in my area for 132 bucks plus tax.
Since buying a CZ 82 semi auto I've developed an addictions to shooting it and would reather shoot a pistol than a long gun.
I really like plinking and target shooting with a pistol so I see a 22lr and a quality 9mm
semi auto being one of my future purchases.
It's fun !!!! And I'm getting to be a better shot already...A.H
