| Which firearm?
How u guys doing, hope u had a good new year. Question, I'm getting my conc. firearm permit and I'm looking for a good handgun. I heard about a Glock 23, then i hear about KB problems with the Glock. I heard about the SIG 228/229 I heard about the handgun that the israel army uses, the jericho 941. or what about the Heckler/Koch guns? or the Walter P99 which are the german police uses. I made some research, and I know it's always what u prefer and people have different opinions. it looks like that it's 50/50 when it comes to the glock and the sig. can you give me any advice or explanation why certain guns are more fav. by you????? thanks guys Last edited by flavor4real; 01-02-2008 at 06:55 AM. |

| Don't rush - take your time
Take time to handle all the firearms, and fire as many as possible if possible (friends, etc.) to find what fits you best in terms of balance, trigger pull, pointability, hand to grip fit, etc. as this is how you will determine what is right for you from a field of high quality firearms. That will be the gun with which you will practice the most, become proficient, and be ready for whatever opportunity or need comes your way. |

all GLOCKS will operate the same way. The modles are going to be for the different sizes of pistols avialable. The GLOCK 17 and 22 are the same size and more or less the same gun the 17 is a 9mm and the 22 a .40. same for the 19 and the 23. there are basicly 4 sizes of GLOCKs. (someone correct me if I am wrong). The standard size such as a 22, the compact size like the 23, the sub-compact like the 27 and then there is a target gun which is like the standard frame with a longer slide. Like I said if I am wrong correct me. I am not a GLOCk expert.

I has a Glock 23 really nice gun never had a problem with it. I now have an XD 40 I would highly recommend you looking into that gun, I love it, the feel is so much better than a glock!

G17-G21 are both full size G23 Compact G23 =.40 G17 =9mm G21= .45 Very difficult to answer you question properly. Glock 'kboom' is high overrated. With any manufactured components things can happen. 'Murphys law" My concern would have more to do with; fitting me. Your different models cover the spectrum fairly well. Given two full sizes picked. G17 would be my first pick. Cheaper to shoot and will do any job that needs to be done with a handgun. Follow up with more of your thoughts. Thanks

I never had any problems what so ever with the glocks, Springfield Armory's are great guns as well, H&K are very good guns as well, little more costly, its just what ever feels best to you and what you wanna pay for ammo

you can really get a good deal at a pawn shop if you know the cost of new guns, most people pawn a gun cause they need money for some reason and just fail to pick it up, keep in mind most pawn shops only loan about half what a gun is actually worth, i know cause i worked in a gun and pawn shop for 13 years, what i'm saying is a used glock in excellent shape is worth bout 400 to 450 pending on condition, xd's about the same , beretta etc

The 9mm is the perfect beginner cartridge. It's a lot cheaper than other rounds ($15/100rounds, vs $23+/100rounds for the .40S&W and somewhere around $28/100 for the .45acp). It also makes a pretty good home/self defense cartridge. You can find some ok deals at pawn shops, but chances are the shop owner isn't going to be able to help you like a gun shop owner could. I would go to a few gun shops and get your hands on a Glock, Springfield XD, S&W M&P (My recommendation, cheap, accurate, and fits in your hand like a M1911), or any others that you might want to try out. Glocks are known to be reliable, but they are also known to not fit well in some hands. Don't buy for the name, it's useless if you can't shoot it well. |
