| Senior Member | Agree - we need more information Please come back with a more specific information. Exactly what problem or problems are you experiencing? It might be that your gun needs to go back to Ruger for warranty work if it is in warranty or to a gunsmith for examination. |

| Senior Member | Let someone else shoot it and see if the same thing is happening before you blame the gun. It might be you are just prone to the noise. I think you are just nervous and thinking too much about what you are doing. Also bring the target in real close (7yds) and then see what you can do from there. If you are hitting good on the target then move it out. Not everybody is a Sgt. York first time out. |

| Senior Member | Shoot it on some sandbags and see what it does. And get about 4 bricks of cheap Wal-mart .22LR and practice, practice, practice. PS make sure the ammo you buy works in the pistol and doesn't jam before you buy 4 bricks. If you buy 4 bricks of jamming ammo it will just frustrate you and you won't learn as well.

| Senior Member ![]() | Buy other brands of ammo to try to find the ammo your pistol shoots more accurantly and keep practising. I had the same thing happen to me with a CZ pistol so I change ammo. shoot as often as you can and wear ear plugs or ear muff hearing protection. You'll get better...A.H P.S. give the barrel a good cleanung too. |

| Senior Member | If you're shooting low left, then you're probably yanking on the trigger and anticipating recoil. I have the same problem with my S&W M&P-9mm, but I'm slowly fixing it. Try other ammo, try letting someone else fire it. If another person makes a good group near the bullseye, then practice dry firing. The gun shouldn't move when the firing pin/striker goes forward. |

How long have you been shooting pistols? If not long it is probably you not the pistol.Everything you do with your hand when shooting a pistol has a dramatic effect on where the shots will go.It might take you some time to become a good shot with a pistol. But you have the best one to teach you hand and trigger control.I used a ruger for a few years, they are a robust little gun which will chew just about any ammo reliably. The trigger is a bit agricultural, but usable. It is very hard to give proper advice on the net, being there with you would be much better.Maybe you should seek out some advice from a local range or training organisation. Its basic, but difficult if no one explains it to you.Sight picture/trigger control/breathing and being comfotable are number 1.Get some help. | |

| Senior Member | Few people can learn to shoot a handgun by themselves. If you can't find someone to teach you then get some written instructions written spesificly for handgun and learn the basics by dry firing. |

| Senior Member ![]() | You maybe suffering from the illness that happens to all handgun shooters at one time or another "the flinch" I have been struck down with this illness a time or two. are you using a 2 hand hold, or shooting off the bench with sandbags ? The bench is best, take your time, line up on target, breath in and let out half of it, squeeze the trigger. If you find its not you but the gun have some one check the muzzle for dings. |

Dry fire practice is ok for center fire but not ok for rim fire. DO NOT dry fire a .22 long rifle since it is a rim fire. Repeated dry fire can damage the firing pin to the point where it will not fire and it will have to be replaced. -UR
