Call your local PD and ask them. Laws vary by jurisdiction. Or walk into a gun shop and try to buy one.

The Feds regard BP guns as distinct from cartridge firearms - they can be bought mail-order without restrictions. However, some states and many metropolitan areas (cities or counties) have their own restrictions. Check your local laws.

Check your local laws. In my state, black powder pistols are not legal for deer.

Don't use a blackpowder pistol for deer. They weren't designed for hunting deer and are too low-powered for the job.

Blackpowder pistols are GREAT for squirrels.

That is a broad statement.I personally killed a deer with one shot usung a model 58 Rem reproduction loaded with 26gr,s of pyrodex behind a .451 ball. The deer was 15yds and made about 50yds before falling dead. The Walker Colt revolver will handle up to 60gr,s of powder making it the most powerful revolver until the .44 mag. came along. If black powder revolvers arent big enough a .357 would have to be disqualified too,and they have taken lots of deer.If you really want to go big ,the Howda singleshot and double barrel pistols they carried in India to hunt tigers developed more than a .30-06,of course they were known to break the wrist of the man that fired them.Better than getting a tiger in your lap.I personally wish all guns were qualified by the ability,s of the shooter. sam.
