| AMMO prices
Is the 9mm and 38 special ammo close to the same? I was thinking about getting a revolver instead of the sr9, and was thinking that I could shoot 38 special for pratice, than 357 for home defence, and something to carry when out hunting, thanks again allllllllllllllllll |

Last I knew thay where close to the same price. I very rarely shoot factory ammo so things could have changed.

9mm is about $2 cheaper per 50 rounds. If you're looking for a handgun to possibly hunt with, then the .357mag would be the way to go (as long as the animal is under ~300lbs).

I shoot a good bit of 9mm and also .38 Special. I can still get good quality factory target rounds (FMJ) of 9mm for around $8/box of 50, but in .38 special they are closer to $11/box.

Deer have been taken with good .357 ammo and well placed shots from a close range. The .357mag would also make a good round for self defense while in the woods. It will stop mountain lion and black bear with ease... Actually, it should kill everything in North America except Grizzly Bear, Moose, and Elk (It will kill all 3 of those, but not in the amount of time that you want in defense or ethical hunting). |

The GP100 is a very rugged gun. With a 4" barrel, you're going to have a shorter sight radius, meaning that you will probably want to keep your shots (for hunting) at a closer distance (Under 50 yards). The advantage to a 4" gun is that it will be much easier to carry and conceal, and will still definitely do the job of self defense. You can't go wrong with Ruger. |

eddiedeverell: without question 9mm is cheaper. .357 will take about any N. American game. Being realistic, Leave Bears alone Just don't spend any time trying to "reach out and touch". 50yds practiced shooting with the GP100 4" Sir; I'm comfortable at 100yds with the GP100 4" but I'll not take that shot on larger game. [deer, antelope, bison, moose,] you get the picture. Now "if" he got into 35-50yds range ![]() Always; bullet placement. Practice; so you don't cause said game suffering. .38 do not shoot anywhere near .357's. 165grn will be high by comparison. Get comfortable with .38's and enjoy shooting .38's. Practice with ?hunting? loads.
