| Senior Member | No +p for Springfield I looked at a beautiful Springfield Armory Champion with the 4" bbl, ambi safeties, in stainless steel with installed Trijicon sights. However, in reading the Springfield manual I came across a sentence that said basically "it is not advisable to shoot +P ammo in any Springfield with less than a 5" bbl" Does anyone have additional info on this. I was going to buy the pistol tomorrow. The advisory doesn't make sense to me. Any help or clarification appreciated. Thanks Doc ![]() |

| Senior Member | Shortening a 1911 barrel requires a considerable amount of engineering. There is much more stress on operating components than in a full size gun. Even the 5" gun was designed around a low pressure round. I do not think you will blow up a 4" gun with SAAMI +P ammunition, but use of +P will probably accelerate wear. |

| Senior Member | Thanks Lefty I went to another gun store this morning and purchased a Springer Mil_Spec in stainless.. The store owner is also an accomplished gunsmith and will be adding nite sights and a couple of other upgrades. This pistol has the 5" bbl. Doc |
