Model 39-2 Field Strip

Hello, I'm relatively new to guns and I'm currently attempting to field strip and clean a S&W Model 39-2 9mm. The disassembly and cleaning went fine, but now that I've reassembled it several times, the recoil rod extends out beyond the end of the barrel. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong here?

The pin has to go through the hole in the link on the barrel. Look to see how you have it positioned. I would have to take mine apart and it's buried in my gun safe but I think you also have to get the flange on the rod (the round end with a little moon shape cut out) positioned rite.
