| Senior Member | Whats the Advantage ? I would like to know if there is any advantage in a DA striker fired type pistol compared to a DA with a hammer . Its been on my mind for awhile to ask but just never got around to asking . So is there or is it just preference ![]()

| Matter of preference. My two primary carry guns are a 1911 and a Glock. Like them both. |

| Lost in the Ozone Again ![]() | No difference. An exposed DA hammer can snag (but if in a newer SA cocked and locked auto, the spur's sometimes prevented from snagging by being shielded by the safety), but that's the only thing I can think of. If spurless no difference at all. Thinking Double Action Only (DAO) -- if traditional double action the functioning is different. 1st shot DA followed by SA on the rest. Also need to decock pistol.

| As dilagaf2 said, the exposed hammer permits an optional SA first shot. Todays crop of striker fired handguns sort of came along because of the increase in popularity of DAO handguns. Most however are not true DAO guns because they are partly cocked in the carry condition. Pulling the trigger only completes the cocking cycle and releases the striker. Some are fully cocked and the trigger is a combination safety and trigger. |
