Revolver

Well due to money issues i wont be getting one any time soon. I have always liked the looks of revolvers. Not short ones though. Ones with 4 to 5" barrels. But i dont know much about revolvers. I was thinking maybe a .357 magnum. It would be for home defense/car gun (yes i plan on taking all the legal actions to be able to do this). Also im considering maybe one that would fire the .45 Long colt. Any suggestions?

double or single action? for a single you can't beat a ruger blackhawk, as for a double I can't really help that much. some will say taurus, which I have never had any problems with yet, smiths are nice and so are rugers, but you will be paying more for them but getting better trading stock for future use, if you desire.

i was gonna go with single action. I like how Ruger blackhawks look. my grandpa has one in the .357 magnum. I looked online and one guy had a blackhawk that was a .45 Colt but it also came with a cylinder for .45 acp. Do you have to buy those seperate or does every ruger blackhawk .45 Colt come with the cylinder for the .45 acp? also what do blackhawks run brand new? ive been trying the Ruger website but every time i try to look at the pistols it says dead link or something like that

Good used Smiths, Rugers, and Colts can be found around here at some pretty good prices.

Well don't give up just yet. If you get that rebate for singles, I think $600, or the $1200 for married filling jointly couples, you'll have the cash for one then... Let the Government buy it for you...

Keep looking. You'll come across a good deal on one.

That's what I'm looking at. Great minds do think alike. lol The 4 5/8 or the 5 5/8 inch barrel one though. Personally I don't want the 7 inch. I'm leaning towards the 5 5/8" barrel. I've been trying to get to the website for it but I keep getting an error 500 for it for some reason. Both yesterday and still today. So I imagine once someone gets into work and sees it, they'll get to fixing it.

yeah hopefully. the odd thing is i found a website with the Ruger blackhawks listed and the 7.5" barrel was about 25 bucks cheaper than the 5.5 and 4 5/8" guns. im most likely gonna just settle in the middle and go for the 5.5" barrel. also where is a good place to get cheap .45 colt ammunition? i looked on Midwayusa.com and it was like 30 bucks for 50 rounds i think

A gp100 or a s&w mdl10 4" either make good defensive weapons.
And fairly quick to reload with speed loaders, a single action is good but as a self defence weapon it isn't in the same league as a double action weapon.
You most likely will need more than 1 shot, you will be under stress the less you have to think about the better. keep it simple. front sight press

You can find pre model 10 M&P's for $200. Great shooters. I just picked this one up for a truck gun.

Smith and Wesson 610. Shoots 10mm and 40 S&W. More power than the 357, and the 610 comes in 4" and 6.5" barrels.

cheaper that dirt or the sportsmans guide usually have 45lc in bulk that isn't too badly priced. And you won't be disapointed with a blackhawk, have the whole line and love them all. I do have the dual cylinder 45acp/45lc and can say that I don't think I have ever fired any 45acp out of it. just have to much fun with the 45lc, also have a large loop m92 lever gun that shoots 45lc so its a grab a few boxes and head out the door kinda thing.

I think the ammo is 19th century calibers for the most part and loaded to similar velocities as then. Solid lead slugs, I think.
