finally made it to the range

Well I finally found a indoor range that does rentals and actually made it there today. I used a Smith and Wesson M&P 40. Nice gun. first 50 rounds were all over the target. its been a couple years since i fired a handgun and it was only a 9mm. second 50 on a new target were all in the 8's or higher(except for 1 hole which i swear was my neighbor missing his target cause i counted 51 holes. if you look close you will see the stray bullet near the bottom in the center). I was shooting at about 10 yards. It seemed though that it was hitting low. I have pretty good aim but the first 25 rounds were in the bottom of the 8 ring, consistent but all gut shots. What are pistols typically sighted at? I found when I aimed at the top 8 I would be right around the 10-X most of the time.
PS I forgot how much fun it was. I definately going to have to by a annual membership so i dont have to pay $8hr for the range.
Also as far as pistols. I really liked the way the MP40 shot. It felt nice in my hand but I didnt notice any safetys on it. Im guessing that becaus its for military/police. Any recommendations for a pistol that handles like the Smith. I looked at the Springfield XD and it had a palm and trigger saftey but of course they don't have one for rent. Only about every model glock, a few smiths, and some sigs. I'd hate to shoot a sig and fall in love and not be able to afford it.

dont let money stop you check out a SIG, they are fantastic pistols and they are not that much more than an MP. After all whats a couple of hundred dollars over many multiple years of happiness?

ive done some reading about the MP 40 on another forum and there are a lot of complaints about the front sight being too high and off centered. I wonder if that was my issue?

Just shot the Sig P220 today; rr to follow later.

While I still very much like my Glock, love wheelguns, and the MP's a great gun, to be honest, I should have done myself a favor and bought this gun years ago !

Wow !

I'd try one and see if it fits you.

I'll see if they have that sig when I take the wife on friday (hopefully, because its cheaper for us to share a lane for our hour). I know they had about 5 different Sigs.

I'm thinking about going ahead and applying for my CCW. Anyone know what the different shots you have to make. All i have found is that 70% on the range. The guy at the store said the furtherist you would shoot is 15yds. Also does it really take 90 days to get it back?

I also attached another pic of my target to show where I was aiming @10yrds (the yellow dot). Any advise so that where I am it hits?

I test fired and test fired again ,anything I thought would make a good carry weapon. Once I got the field narrowed down to 3 or 4, I test fired again and made comparisons. It was a ton of fun and time very well spent. Then i made a choice and never looked back. There are many fine handguns out there, dont be afraid to compare them more than once or twice.

Incidently, a Sig was very nearly what i purchased, they are very nice. I ended up choosing a HK.

well i went and shot a Sig P226 today. I hate the price but love the gun. I personally think it shot better than the MP40. I put 25 rds @ 7yrd and 25rds @ 14 yrds. only about 5 were outside the 9 ring (they're in the 8 ring), with 4 in the X. I was very pleased when I pulled the target up and there are two half dollar sized holes, one right below and one slightly below and left, of the 10 ring. These were all shot using the 6'oclock pictur window.

What guns shoot similar to the p226 but have a more friendlier price? They have a glock 40 which i'll shoot next time, i think its is the 22 model, but could be wrong.
