| Unsure where to look.
Hi and sorry if this is in the wrong part. I came across what i belive is some kind of small flint lock pocket pistol. It could be a "toy" of some kind but i do not know of any sites that might be able to identify it. Any help would be great! |

Any markings on it? If it's a replica of some sort it should have something.

The handle is missing and i can not see any letters or numbers. It has engravings/patterns around it and it still locks back with a slight bit of effort. The barrel has engravings/patterns also with 4 slots inside. The Trigger folds into the main part and comes out when locked back. Like i said it could be a "toy" but i was curious. |

It ppears to not be a flintlock, but a cap and ball. I'm guessing it's a non firing replica. | |

Definitely cap and ball, could be one of those cheapo kits that are out there, with the wood missing or rotted off. In any event, don't plan to retire off it's value. Might be an oldie, too hard to tell by those photos, but it looks like it's pretty f'd up. Now it's a paperweight or coffee table nicknack, I'm afraid. Better photos will tell more, of course.

If that's rust pitting in the area below the hammer, it's been buried a long time, but if it's engraving & the metal is clean, it's ok. Looks like the lock still works, so I'd bet that isn't rust.. It's cap & ball (percussion cap & patched round ball) & I'd imagine it once fired about a .36 - .40 cal ball & took about 25 grains of powder. The 'slots' in the barrell are most likely rifling. Is that a round or octagon barrel? There are replicas out there in a similar configuration that are shootable. Bet it was an inexpensive pocket pistol (could tell more if we could blow up the thumbnail). Single shot didn't get you much but a chance across a table. If it's in nice, I'd consider more research to find the type of handle, then make one & display it. It would look nice as it is in a shadowbox. Things like this are neat to find |
