| I been drafted! Sort of. My office is doing one of those inane "Corporate Olympics" things and, because it's a part of a huge company, they're making a thing out of it. Turns out, one of the events is shooting. They need a team of at least 4, and I'm one of the only people in the entire building who's even handled a firearm, let alone has a clue what they're doing. Right now, with me, they have 3. Heh. The event seems pretty simple. 7, 10, then 15 yards. 6 shots, reload, 6 shots. 35 seconds per target. Problem is, I don't own a pistol suitable for that. My personal gun is a Taurus Model 608, 8-shot, .357 Magnum wheelgun. No .22s are allowed. So, what's a good suggestion for a pistol I'll have to rent from the range that would have the best performance for something like this? Now I suppose I could try it with my Model 608. 35 seconds for 12 shots is a fair bit of time, and reloading 6 rounds can't possibly take more than 5 seconds, even without a speedloader. I may practice that sometime this week. But still, suggestions are welcome for something that'll be as accurate as is likely if I'm not familiar with it. - Coeloptera |

| Senior Member | I personally like the Sig P229 9mm. First time renting it i put 50 rds with most inside the 9 ring at up to 15yrds. Just make sure that the front sight is not faded like the one I had. I almost went to the car and got a white-out pen to touch it up. If you used your gun and shot as fast as he did, you could shoot all 8 rounds and nobody would even know. Just make sure you only hit the target 6 times or they might get suspicious |

| What a position you are in to make more gun owners out of those who aren't. Good luck and show them how safe it can be and many benefits of owning a firearm and how important it is to protect the 2nd Amendment. Keep us posted as to when, what types of targets or competition they'll have. As for the right pistol, rent or go with a 9mm or a .38. Don't need a .45 to hit paper nor do you need anything to big that will or may affect how good you shoot, especially if you're not use to it. So again, go with a 9mm or .38. Something fairly easy to manage and control. And that super fast shooter in that video is Jerry Miculek, S&W's pro shooter, JERRY MICULEK

| Okay first...daaaaaaaaaaamn. That's impressive. Next, I may go with a simple 9mm, going to hit the range sometime this week. The shooting event is Saturday the 29th. Size isn't an issue per se. My personal pistol is .357 Magnum, .38s feel like .22s when used in it. I dunno...I just mimed it a bit and I think I might be able to do 12 shots with a reload in between in 35 seconds. Like I said, I'll practice, but I wish I had a speedloader, but 8-shot ones are hard to find. I may try the Sig and since it's the range I have a membership at, I can know, with certainty, that if I rent a pistol beforehand, I can rent the exact same one for the event. Heh, I just never expect to need to fire the Taurus more than 8 times in very short order. Anything that can walk away from that deserves to get me. - Coeloptera |

| Does yours take moon clips? If so, you could use those for reloads? If you went with .38s in yours. Also, as a joke, go to your bosses and tell them you need a raise to pay for the new gun you have to get for this event. lol JK But, it would be funny to see their faces when you asked. And hear about it. Be funny if you did and they sure, how's $50 bucks a week sound. lmfao

| I'd definitely try a 9mm. Sig's are very nice. If you're used to a double action trigger on your .357, you might want to try a DAO handgun, like a S&W M&P, Glock, Springfield XD, Ruger SR9, etc. Also, if you only need to shoot 6 - reload - 6, maybe a M1911 would be good? Just a thought |

http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpag...eitemid=117162 I haven't ordered one yet, but intend to get some in a little while since I have a 608 and the local range has 2 pistol clubs I'm interested in that play on Saturdays. If it was me, I'd go with .38's because they're such low recoil and my Taurus is plenty accurate. Not to mention how cheap the .38's are compared to .357's. | |

| That's a good point, if you can use your .357, you might want to show off with a wheelgun. Not many people would be expecting it |

| That speed-loader only has 6 holes in the picture...heh. Lessee...I have 10 days...I could order it and have it by then, but I want to contact the company and confirm it's really for 8 rounds. I think I may go with the wheelgun and .38s or .38 Specials, just for the extra bit of accuracy. I need to find out about the ammo, if they're paying for it I'll get something high-end as I can. With the 608, the muzzle rise is basically nonexistant with .38s, too. 35 seconds is starting to look like plenty of time. I've also been teaching myself to cock and shoot quickly and smoothly. I think I agree with those who say I should stick with what I'm most familiar with for a competition. Besides, it will likely look pretty unique. I doubt anyone else'll bring a wheelgun. So...ammo recommendations? Distance is short, so I want as close to a perfectly flat trajectory as I can get. - Coeloptera |
