MARK 23? I have heard from a very reliable source that the U.S. military is going to start using H&K MARK 23's as their carry weapon. What is the deal with that? Those pistols are huge and bulky. Don't get me wrong I would love to own one. I think they are neat guns, but with all the other gear our military soldiers have to carry I think the MARK 23 is just to large. ![]()

Never heard of it until now, I think your friend is mistaken, this thing is not something that would ever be a standard issue sidearm. It looks like a "Man From UNCLE" gun. HKPRO:*&!@#% The Mark 23 Mod 0 Pistol:*&!@#% The SOCOM Last edited by Taurus Fan; 03-25-2008 at 07:42 PM.

It sure wouldn't make for a very efficient military side-arm. I really don't see it happening

Having carried and fired the M9 while in service, I do wish they'd get something more reliable. It gave me nothing but trouble

I think the United States military should be procuring military equipment from United States companies. Why the hell we would want to have to rely on France, Germany? Has DOD flipped out. Oh, yeah, we don't have to fight you, we'll simply stop providing you with firearms...simple. Give me a Colt 1911...an old one.

Well I do know that Sig just got a 23 million contract for 5,000 SIG Sauer pistols by the U.S. Army Tank, Automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) at the Rock Island Arsenal, Ill. Its for the SIG Sauer SP2022 9mm. As for why rely on european made weapons? Well a lot of those nations are developing some great new innovations. Like the Swedish built AT4 anti tank missile. They did a TV special on military channel on the even newer models they are coming out with like the ability to shoot one indoors and not get killed by the blast concussion, and the ability to use one warhead to take out a building or punch a man sized hole in a wall for breaching. The marines are also testing the new FN Herstal M3M .50 machine gun too. FN already makes the M249 SAW and the new M3M looks pretty amazing. Also take a look at the new HK 416 vs the standard M4. A lot of improvements and reliability improvements. heck even the new Israeli TAVOR looks pretty pretty promising. Meh, in terms of military grade small arms, all the cool new innovative stuff seems to be made over seas. Maybe Im not just getting the entire picture though. | |
