| Change TV Channels With Your Revolver?
30 years ago I used to dry fire a Ruger Blackhawk when watching an old remote control TV, and as I cocked it, the TV would go to a new channel. Not all the time, but frequently enough to make me stop shooting bad guys on television with it. I'm guessing it was something weird with the Ruger's metal parts dragging against each other? It only happened with that TV and firearm. Has anyone else ever experienced this phenomenon? I've had people tell me I must be imagining it, but my wife remembers it as well.

If I got very close to the TV and held the gun sideways near the remote sensor, I could actually do it consistantly.

By Ruger Blackhawk do you really mean alien technology? I am not sure how that would even work.... if it was RF or IR, I don't think the gun would have any affect on the remote's connection.  |

Old remote TV's from the 1970s were sound operated. The remote could change station, but nothing else. The remote controllers were sometimes called "clickers."

I am not saying it is impossible, I am saying I don't know enough about the old remotes to explain why. I am sure some google searching might explain it, if one were so inclined.

Well, I just looked it up, and apparently old TV remotes worked by emitting a specific tone. Depending on the tone, the TV would channel up, down, or turn off. Taurus Fan, you're not losing your mind! I'm just way too young to even know about these remotes and TV's. |

Yeah, I was born in 1980, and I think the only black and white TV I ever saw was at my great grand parents house.

When I was little my Dads sister had passed away and some of the things we inhearited was a remote control T.V. When it Thundered from a storm passing through the channels would start spinning at MACH SPEED...I'll just say it scard the crap out of all us the first time it did that. Oh it wouldn't stop until you pushed in on the channel plunger that was on the remote. My Dad sold the T.V to a neighbor and when it did that during a storm his wife demanded he get rid of it, so he set it out on the curb ! And the next night someone got it. We wonder if the person that picked it up kept it. LOL...A.H |
