Must admit the title had me thinking the same thing.Only thing is,who is swapping what? You cant have my wife or my guns hahahhahah.

The biggest i would want my wife to shoot a lot of rounds through would be a 357 magnum. My wife has shot a lot of bigger handguns but its not comfortable or good for her hands.

I guess that it would have to depend on the gun--and the wife.

Mine's a keeper, though. She buys me guns.

I didn't event think what the title looked like when I wrote it. LOL.

A couple of weeks ago we were out at the range for qualifications, and one of our officers showed us the new pistol he had bought for his wife. Once we stopped laughing and the jokes stopped about don't drop it or it'll break, he let us shoot it. I'm pretty sure it was a S&W 340. It's an alloy frame with a titanium cylinder in .357 and I was impressed. You could stick the thing in your pocket and forget that is there. I fired 5 rounds as fast as I could at 15 yards and I could cover the group with the palm of my hand. I don't care what you're shooting at, that many holes in that size area will stop it.

I haven't seen anyone mention the .327 magnum yet. 20% less recoil than a .357 in like a 125 grain and comparable velocities, and you can get it in a ruger sp101. I'm trying to talk my wife into buying one and letting me carry it for her. lol

How about a couple pictures of that Desert Eagle? Reminds me of my friend's brother who bought that S&W 500, he bought it because it was the biggest hand gun Gander Mt had. Yeah, last time I checked, he has never fired it. I told him to just wear a motorcycle helmet so when it comes back at him, it'll bounce off it and not his nose.

Here's a picture of the mighty Desert Eagle with my Glock 21 for comparison. Sorry for the bad picture quality, but this was just a quick pic snapped with my phone's camera. That Desert Eagle is one BIG hunk of steel.

Lowercase I have taken 5 women to the range that have NEVER shot a gun before. We shot a variety of different handguns. None liked the 1911 type pistols. I have a S&W 13 and they didnt like that. They shot a .44 mag, a S&W 13 .45, a LLama 1911 .45, a TZ 9 mm, a Tarus .22 and the S&W 681 .357 which is just like a 686. All 5 liked the 681 the best.

The Beretta 92FS or if she wants something smaller I would recomend the Beretta PX4 or the PX4 compact. Two of the best small 9mm for concealed carry you can get. But that's just my opinion. If I were you I would go to a gun shop that rents guns and try some out and buy the one that's the most comfortable for her to shoot and carry.

inclination

lowercase: some fine information is being passed along.
Give strong consideration to Ruger GP100, comes in stainless or blue different, lengths.
She wants something stronger; the GP will withstand loads that the others want. GP is heavier, stronger, durable.

.357's will shoot .38's for practicing and you can ?gently? increase the loading. This will give the new shooter time to grow with the firearm.

My first inclination; take her and shoot the different models leaning toward the GP100
Follow up with yours and her thinking and thanks

She liked the looks of the S&W 686. I'm taking her shooting today at a range that has the 686, GP100, and Tracker available for rental and I plan to have her shoot them all.

The Eagle has had a grand total of 18 rounds shot through it since she got it 2 years ago. Her last comment about it was; "Why did you let me get that thing?" LOL. She had been dead-set on getting a large-bore auto pistol and I had tried my best to talk her into getting something like a Kimber .45.

Anyway, this time, she specifically asked me for help- picking out her "hiking gun".
Get her a .38 Special.

Sounds to me like your wife could benefit from some time at the range and a gun shop or two. Let her see how impractical a "hunting pistol" is when a back-up pistol is what you're looking for. If she's carrying a Desert Eagle, or 44 Mag, or 45 for that matter, it might as well be a brick....if she can't shoot it.

My wife has shot my 44 mag, and she can handle it pretty well, but she also knows her 357 Rossi is a much better fit for anything she'll ever face.
AMEN to that.
