Little problem with my Kel Tec P 11...

Just picked a slightly used(50 rounds through it) Kel Tec P 11 9mm, and took it out to have some fun. The first round fired ejected the case straight up...and it landed down my shirt collar(ouch). I changed into a collarless shirt and the next 20 rounds bounced off my hat and shoulders. I cleared and field stripped it and took a look at the ejector and couldn't see any burrs. I fired an additional 200 rounds through it with no change.

Is this typical for the P11? The gun ran perfect with no jams or ftf's.

Any help would be appreciated

Robert

Mine seems to sometimes eject the rounds up and back at me, but never have been really hit by them. Just hold it sideways like gangbangers and all your problems will be solved.

We have two and they don't seem to spit brass at us, can't find magazines for them. Everyone says they can get them, but when I went to the wholesaler they said they were on back order.

I had the same thing happen with a Kel-Tec P 3AT. I borrowed a friend's when I wanted to shoot it to help me decide between a P 3AT or Ruger LCP. If the LCP doesn't have the ejection problem that is the way I'll go. I had one go down my shirt too. OUCH!!!!

Don't have a problem with mine, but Sam has a good point.
You can use certain S&W mags with those, but they stick out the bottom.

Have you tried contacting Kel-Tec? They have a pretty good policy or return/repair.

As I debate between the Kel-Tec P3AT or Ruger LCP it is Kel-Tec's warranty and service that leans me their way. Still haven't decided but I do like Kel-Tec's warranty.

Never thought of that. Might be worth looking into.

Other than it making it rain brass, I'm real pleased with the little pistol.

I have a P32 that ejects the brass almost straight up, but not back at me. Sam's recommendation is something I will try at some point.

I'd double check your manual and warranty. On many automobiles the warranty goes void once a "Non-Ford or Non-Chevy etc" authorized mechanic works on it. Make sure you don't have to have an Authorized Kel-Tec Gun Smith do it to keep your lifetime warranty valid.

P-11 Pro & Con

I had a P-11, bought it without seeing it, range owner ordered it for me. He discreetly tried to switch me to the P3-AT but I wanted the 9mm. I finally sold it at a loss. Never had the problem you mention, always ejected out the side, and never failed to fire or eject.

The long hard trigger pull was something else, and the overall size never fit my hands. I took what I got for it, added some and bought a J-Frame .38 Special. It doesn't have the capacity of the P-11 but fits my hands and has a nice trigger pull. YRMV.

From what I've heard over on KTOG.com , Keltec doesn't seem to care whether its an honest failure or a case of hot-rodding gone wrong. They just make it right.

I have heard about the same. That is what keeps me looking at the P 3AT over the Ruger LCP, the warranty. Everything I hear about Kel-Tec's cunsomer Service is Calss A rated. I'd still double check before I let another gun smith put a grinder to it.

Mine doesn't do that. I did have a Smith Sigma a long time ago that did though.

Before dropping it off at my local shop, I ran some different ammo through it with the same results.

I once owned another pistol that downright HATED me....a Walther P-22 that ejected the cases straight back into my forehead!LOL! The problem fixed itself after 40 rounds or so, bit was a hilarious 40 rounds!
