Not really CCW but was deer hunting and carrying my 50th Anniversary Ruger .22 pistol. We have a nice creek by the camp where we cool our deer down so I stopped by to see if anyone had gotten one. Next thing I know there's a big splash from my pistol falling in the water. I had left the strap on my holster undone.

Here's the saying on dropping guns. "There's those that have, and those that haven't YET".

The best advice I can give (at least with a well-designed modern firearm) if this happens is simply let it fall. Most employ some type of hammer block or transfer bar so that if properly carried the chance of an AD is very very low. On the other hand, folks have been injured or killed grabbing for a dropped gun when they snag the trigger and it (as guns do when the trigger gets depressed) goes BANG.

MY father in law who is retired military working for the sheriffs dept took his Glock 19 out of his holster to unload it, ejected the mag and set it on the dresser, then his finger somehow slipped of of the side of the pistol while he was trying to rack the chambered round out and shot a hole in the bed. Every time I think about it I hear the banjos in my head.

I once spent several minutes fishing around in a deep chair looking for the .25 that had slipped out of my pocket.

It was in the middle of the night, and a police officer was making his rounds on foot in a town nearby me. He stopped in front of this men's clothing store and began practicing his quick draw in the light of the street lamp and the store window. As you might imagine, his handgun went off, breaking the window and setting off the burglary alarm. He was censured, and ever after has been called by the name "Quick Draw."
