| Looking For a Good Silenced .22
Me and my father love to shoot. but anytime we do. The neighbors come up and ask if everythings all right. we're looking to buy a couple of good silenced .22 pistols but didn't know what to pick -integral or External silencer -several different enhaceable weapons (ruger mk. 3, Walther p22, etc.) Please Help! P.S. We aren't doing anything spectacular, just plinking paper targets in the yard. |

Show them what a .45 is like vs. a 22. Then when they here the little crack of the .22, they'll know you're target shooting

i've heard ruger mk. 3 sig mosquito Walther p22 Browning buckmark All as viable suppressed weapons. The ruger can only be integrally silenced. The rest are external screw-on types with custom threaded barrels |

First you must have the special paper work from the BATF and you can only supress subsoinc ammunition. To have and posses a silencer with out is a felony. asking for such equipmemnt is against forum rules Steve

The cheaper route is to get cb caps they sound like an air gun and shoot in a 22 but you must manually work the bolt on a semi (they only have priming compound no powder I use them some times for pests)

| Great suggestions. However there are laws and premits that must be taken care of first.

I suggest you contact a class 3 Firearms dealer in your area for what is available that you can afford and they will also assist you with the BATFE Paperwork / Transfer and getting the 200 Dollar tax stamp. Rich

What is the process that you have to go through to get the go ahead to own one? How much does it cost? Does the paperwork have to be updated regularly, or is it a one time deal?

You should go thru a Class 3 dealer who can order one for you. You must fill out an application , and get your Chief Law enforcement officer to sign off on it, fingerprints and Id , along with 200 bucks for the tax stamp...in 3-4 months , if approved you will get the paper with the tax stamp on it and then you can buy and own the silencer...It is a one time deal. A Class 3 or even a class 2 Manufacturer can help you and will supply the serial number of the silencer for the paperwork...You need to have a copy of that paperwork with you anytime you are using it to avoid being arrested... After you jump through all the hoops, the Jonathan Arthur Ceiner (Ciener?) company in Florida used to offer some really nice-looking suppressed Ruger .22 auto pistols. Don't know if they're still in the suppressor business, but they do still build and offer a .22 conversion kit for 1911's. They also did all kinds of bolt-action rifle conversions to suppressed.

Once one is approved, is it requisite to be approved for subsequent purchases of suppressors or are you then "licensed" to own and use them in general. In other words, is it like a CCW liscence where I can purchase guns without background check or do you still go through the application procees and stamp tax for each suppressor purchased? Doc |

Shooterboy, why not just call the neighbors and let them you'll be shooting before you start? Tell them you thought you'd save them a call. You might want to invite them to join you and make a couple of new shooters to join the fold while you're at it. On the other hand, if you just want a suppressor and it's legal in your state, you don't need a reason other than you want one. I live in Ohio, where I could have them if I wanted one, but I look at the price of each one, plus the $200 tax on each one, plus being in the paperwork as owning a device deemed somehow more sinister than the gun is alone, and I don't think it's worth it. I'd rather annoy the neighbors.

I shoot the CB caps and Aguila Colibri indoors with a backstop and they are just like pelletguns or quieter.
