Cylinder grease

What can I use to grease the cylinder axle on my S&W? I just got my new cylinder in and need to grease her up.

It is not one of the new high tech products but I have always done quite well using 3 in 1 oil to lubricate all my firearms.

Grease does have a drawback in that it can retain material you do not wish to retain.

Break Free works well for everything.

Sentry has their Armorer's kit which has their Moly lube (but be careful with Moly because it tends to stain things like clothes). I really like their dry lube (Tuf Cloth) -- the moly seems to work well but jury is still out for me.

You can also use Remington's new gun grease or the Shooters' choice.

personally i use shooters choice not for any particular reason but because it was what was around here when i needed it and has worked well for me

i've taken to using Scott duff's plastilube in everything that needs grease, as a synthetic it doesn't retain as much dirt and carbon as other oils and greases, it's incredibly stable in that it doesn't drop off, and consistance is great at all temps.

Plastilube works as well as Mobil 1.

I use Gunzilla on my Model 10-5. Works great for me.

Just put one drop of oil under the extractor star and work it back and forth. That is all you need. Do not use grease. I have had the instructors from Smith and Wesson recommend Mobil One synthetic motor oil. A quart will last a long long time. Light weight, thin oil, not the thick heavy stuff. It works great and cheaper than the other stuff for a full quart of it. Do you swap out the old cylinder guts to the new one? How much for the new cylinder? Just curious and really nosey.

I only bought the cylinder itself so I used the guts that are original to the gun. The cylinder I got is the same model in a different finish so it swapped right out.

$95, Blued steel

Would have been cheaper but I got into a bidding war.
