I know this should be under "Reloading", but if you buy Winchester 7.62x39 brass, chamfer the inside of the case mouths before sizing because they are rough and it's easy for the die to hang-up and crush the shoulders.
I own a colt 16"hbar in 7.62x39 and love it i have a minimum of 3000 rnds thru it with no problems what so ever as long as you use quality magazines frankenmags perform the best they are made by usa magazines LLC products produces new 30 rnd mags that also work excellent with this weapon except they do not ship to ny so u have to have a friend out of state help u out with that one and most 20rnd mags u can get for it work just fine as well however it will not function properly with 7.62 ammo jammed into 223 mags it is also nice in the ar platform because of all the accesories u can put on it. but if u are in the neighborhood for a big bore A R stick with the ar-10 made by armalite great gun works excellent and very easy to convert m14 mags to work with it all u need is a dremmel and 15 minutes of time.
My lower and both of my uppers are DPMS through an through. I have one Colt 20 rnd. 7.62x39 that sticks in my 7.62x39 well and is hard to get in and out. No problems with any of the others, G.I. in the .223, or CProducts in the 7.62x39. What would you trade for the Colt Mag.?
For what it's worth..............I have a Colt Light Weight Sporter in 7.62x39 with 10 - 30 round mags, 4 power scope, sling, flash supressor and assault bag. This rifle has been flawless for 1K rounds. The power is awesome. I am not a match shooter but will hit what I shoot to qualify. If you want to stock your home arsenal with a room clearing and mid range weapon, this is it (for me). Don't get me wrong...........there are plenty of other quality weapons out there but this one is very good all around.
I have two ar's in 7.62x39. One Colt light match and one I built mostly from DPMS parts. I have run at least ten thousand rounds thru the two of them with only a handful of malfunctions traced either to the mag or my poor maint. 95% of that ammunition was Wolf Steel case. You can't compare with the other great calibers but I like to shoou alot and can't afford $1.00 to 2.00 a round and I can only reload so much. Great fun to shoot.
