Direwolf, do you agree that the .17 HMR is about as good a smile generator that has ever held a bullet? I guess that's the best one for me - 6 to 10 mm's at 100 with the .17. G3 knows that I shoot big bores but he did ask tightest or smallest group - or best, whatever so I gotta say it was the .17 at 6 to 10mm's for me. My match .30's will do 1 hole at 100 to 200 and stay pretty tight as they get on out but since the idea is the smallest hole then - my best has been with the .17 <grinning> Think about it, one bullet from a .50 through a target would be a sloppy grouping for a .17!!

Well max i hate to say it but im in love wit the 17hmr. I do alot of squirrel hunting and there are alot of woodchucks around my area that hate that **** caliber tho. I like the CCI ammo alot more than hornady for anything larger than a rabbit, just enough penetration to be effective on anything under 10 pounds. Hornadys have so much expansion on impact that there is very little left of the actual bullet to penetrate anything. Did i mention that the CCI will almost penetrate my 1/4" steel spinning target at 100 yards where as minimags out of my 22LR wont even dent the **** thing? BUT...7.62x51 is still my favorite round of all time, especially when JLD has the new shipment of PTRs available for me to order...For now its the savage boltaction that has neighbors complaining bout noise. -Eric |
