Welcome to Gun and Game! I'll let some other folks chime in with recommendations on firearm and caliber. (I do like .30 caliber rifles though)

the 270 is a great cartridge all around as long as you know the trajectory

.270win,.270WSM,7mm rem,.308,.30-06,.300winmag,.338winmag.And at least 50 others. Also, pick up a good shotgun,M500Mossy,M870Rem..And I would rather get caught without my pants before I forgot my SA .45LC or Ruger Blackhawk .44mag.

Mmmm,

given the distances involved in many areas I would think about the .243 Winchester and the 7mm/08 in a longer target/varmit style barrel for antelope and deer. Of course, if elk is in the offing then the more appropriate .338 mag might be adviseable.

Best wishes.

N.D. Guns?

Your 270 will do well enough for whitetail, but IMHO you will need a 223, 22-250, or a 220 Swift for sage rats.
GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING!!!

Nothing wrong with that .308. Wait til you get up here and see for yourself if that isn't all you need. I live in South Dakota, and .308 is good enough down here. I imagine that it is good enough up there, as well.

ND is a lot like Eastern Montana where I used a .243 Win. successfully for many years. As others have suggested, the .270 is also an exelent choice for deer and antelope. The wind often blows out there on the prairie.

Fine rifle but 26" bbl and lots of weight to carry if you do much walking.I advise looking at the SPS Tactical with 20"bbl also. It's just your choice of what fits your needs.
