243Win. vs. 244Rem.

I have a mod.70 Win.243..If I bought a mod.70 Win.244 Rem.would it be basically the same action? Could I buy a barrel and chamber it .244Rem.and fit it to my 243 action?

The .244/6mm Remington uses the standard short action as does the 243 win.

IMHO, when you buy that new 244 rem barrel you should get it in 1 in 10 twist and not the old old standard for 244 of 1 in 12. That mistake by Remington is what eventually killed the 244. .............. Big Cholla

i truly like the 6mm remington , but for the 100fps gain its not worth the expense of rebarreling .

Personally,

I am just a bit lost on wanting a .244 as this is really now just a niche market cartridge with greater costs becoming the norm.

However, I do think the conversions you mentioned will work.

I mostly asked this question for my personal information..I wanted you experts opinion.Midway has in stock a 243/6mm Krieger stainless barrel in an eight twist 1 1/4 straight.$600 is a lot for something that is so close to what I already have.So many people are argueing me that a 244 can NOT work in a 243 action.Thanks.

It will work with that length of action.

Actually any of the short calibers, 243,308,244/6MM, etc will work in either short or long actions if they have the correct bolt face. (eg. you can't use a 223 in an action with a 308 sized bolt face).[but a 22/250 would work just fine]

Heck I don`t know, that`s like comparing the 7x57 & the 7mm-08, kind of like 6 of one/half dozen of the other............

^ which is why I chose the 7x57 and have a shelf full of 6 Rem handloads waiting for a gun.

note that the x57 family Mausers use an intermediate length action. x57s might not work in all short actions. I'd check it further.

Generally speaking, the 224/6mm Remington are on long actions. This is because of the previous mentioned fact of 224/6mm being based on the 7x57mm case.

Also as was also pointed out the 244 Rem failed because it was rifled for lighter bullets. The 6mm Rem is same case, different rifling twist for heavier bullets.

Choose what you wish.
