Why so much tactical!?

Okay! Not meaning to step on any toes. But why all the tactical BS!? I don't mind all the tactical stuff to an extent but anymore there is nothing unique about it! Even the term tactical and AR-15 has become IMHO the epitome of a cliche!
What brought all of this about?? Surely it wasn't all of the video game hype. But I have no other reasoning??? Any ideas!?

I never had much interest in it, but now that I'm enlisted and gotten issued (some of) the good stuff, I've got a taste for it, and want to get some optics and crap for myself.

I'm sure that you guys are right about a lot of it, but I do believe that a lot of it has to do with returning vets, who have used ACOGS, red dots, night optics, foregrips etc, either in training or overseas, and have gotten a taste for it.

I agree that tactical is way over used to describe even the crappiest of accessories. Unless your tactics are to have your firearm fall apart Chinese made plastic nonsense is not tactical.

I know first hand because I have several friends overseas or vets that love the red dots! And all the fixings! But who's to blame them for being cliche when Uncle Sam taught them to save their own lives with them! Same goes with WW2 vets who today love M1s. Or nam vets loving old style M16s!

Definition of Tactical

1: of or relating to combat tactics: as a (1) : of or occurring at the battlefront <a tactical defense> <a tactical first strike> (2) : using or being weapons or forces employed at the battlefront

2 : of or relating to small-scale actions serving a larger purpose (2) : made or carried out with only a limited or immediate end in view b : adroit in planning or maneuvering to accomplish a purpose

I think too many folks seem to believe that just because the tool has "tactical" printed on it, that the user is relieved of having to use any tactical thought processes to accomplish any given mission. If it's an integral part of getting an unwanted guest to leave my property, I could have a tactical baseball bat. On the other hand, superior tactics would include the use of my dogs to prevent the unwanted guest from intruding on my property in the first place.

There will always be those who will exercise tactical tactics by shooting at the enemy at 1000 yards with a tactical rifle shooting tactical ammunition, off of a tactical bipod, using a tactical scope, with your tactical cover turned around backwards, so that your tactical range dope is visible, through your tactical shooting glasses. Lots easier in that case to call in a tactical air strike.

'cause it's sort of still a free country with a free market? Why not make cars that are governed at a max of 70 MPH? Back in 1946 would a M1Garand or carbine have been considered in the same light? Not for me to judge or dictate how people enjy thier hobbies. In the same breath, you are definitely entitled to your opinion. Would be interested to hear what you don't like about specific product other than objecting to those who choose to purchase it.

America = Free country

Free country = Free Trade

Free Trade = Many companies competing

Many companies competing = Many different products

Many different products = Flooded market

Flood market = Your term "Cliche"

Would I use all this "Tactical" stuff on the market? Probably not. What might I use if I ever got an AR...

- Red Dot or Halographic sight
- Foreward grip
- Laser
- Flashlight
*The above of course only on a SBR'd AR. On a 16"+ AR a scope of some kind, but that is about it.

Its because I enlisted and have done 3 pumps to 2 different sand boxes that I am burned out on the Tati-cool stuff. Most of it belongs on an airsoft training aid not most civi arms. The only good use I can see for a light on a rifle for non LE or military would be spot lighting hogs other then that....... I'm drawing a blank

The only change I want to make on my AR is a larger pistol grip for my big ol' mits, the round hand guards dont bite into your hand like the rails do and are lighter, most of those lights, rails and stuff can stay in the sand box and with the mall ninjas, I dont want them.

Just my personal opinions are stated above

To me, if tactical cool stuff makes you hit your target better then so be it. For me, I'm old school. I don't want to rely on some technological whata majiggy thing to help me shoot better. I want to rely on my shooting skill ability to hit what I am shooting at. Skills can always be honed and improved. When SHTF you can not always say time out, my tactical cool stuff broke and I need to replace it to be any good. JMO.

If your tactical sights fail, you point shoot

If your tactical flashlight fails, at least your position won't be revealed

If your tactical knife fails, you can use an entrenching tool

If your tactical rifle fails, you can use it as a club

But if your tactics fail, it may well be fatal......
