How do you sell a rifle?

So I never thought I would ever sell any of my guns but alas, I have decided to sell my cetme not 100% on the asking price. I just want to know where yall recommend selling, gunbroker? local shop? try a gun show? I know nothing about selling guns.

Thanks for the help

Try putting them on consignment at a local gun store you are familiar with. Just selling to a gun shop will not yield what you should get for them as dealer has to make a profit. When putting on consignment you set your price and store would take a piece of the take. Usually ten per cent or a little more. Listing on Gun Boards is another possibility as you are reaching out to many more sportsman.

You can check GunBroker but keep in mind that you need to find auctions with actual bids. Signing up isn't too much of a pain if you are not already signed up (as I recall anyway), you could sign up and throw several auctions for Cetmes which most resemble yours on a watch list and see what they go for.

Depending on the rules of your neck of the woods you could try listing it in the paper though beware you never know who will respond.

Also keep in mind when selling to a store they are buying to to make a profit so if the gun retails new for $1,000 and sells used for $900 most I have come by will buy for 70ish% of the used price. That means in my example (numbers chosen to make the math easy) you would get $630 for your rifle.

Good call, didn't even think of selling it via consignment.

Yeah tried this myself and usually get close to my asking price but usually store called me and said somebody wants the gun but was wondering if you would take a bit less. Depends sometimes on the gun being sold and the area to be used in.

Ask a bit more then what you really want so that way when they try to go a bit low they really hit the window you were hopeing for. Thats what I have done in the past.

Depending on local laws, if you want to sell face to face, you can list it on Armslist.com You set the price or if you want to trade. It's the Craigslist of gun buyers/ sellers/ traders.

thanks for all the answers, there are some shops around here that will put it on consignment. Ill try armslist for a while then go try consignment if it doesn't sell in a month or two.

Thumbs up Try a show or two !

Gun shows are a great place to sell guns , if your local laws allow it . Your only overhead is the price of admission , and maybe gas , if you weren't going to the show otherwise !

Bad thing about selling on consignment, is they get a cut of your money.

Alternatively; you pay them a small fee, based on the asking price of your item, to use their store, counter, and employees to sell your stuff.

As for the original topic, I would take it down for consignment, sell it to someone I know, or post it for sale on a gun forum.
