| Super Moderator ![]() | That's a really tough call, but due to my familiarity with and supply of the 7.62 NATO round, and my affinity for large rifles, I'd pick the FAL. But it would be a tough choice. Actually, I don't have a FAL, but do have an AK, so in reality I'd grab it.

| What is a FN Fal? What type of rifle is the FN Fal. If I had to fight a resistance type low intensity fight I would opt for a shotgun 12 guage, better coverage, better shock effect, more lead downrange per trigger pull with buck shot, my pick for best for hit and run tactics. If I was in an organized milita, fource on fource, the rifle with the best range without a scope. I live in the desert, lotts of wide open spaces. |

| While I technically and aesthetically prefer the FAL, if it came to actual SHTF combat here in Florida, the AK gets the nod. Distances wouldn't be that long, the swamp water and mud wouldn't bog the AK down, and we could carry more ammo!

| I own both, and either one would arm you just fine. The Ak is limited to medium range, a well-tuned FAL will shoot rings around it. Mine has a carry handle, so I could use the other for an ammo can! |

| The FAL hands down. I own a milled AK that I know is reliable, but I also own an L1A1 and have just sent off an Imbel FAL to be built. My experience with the FAL is with my L1A1 (Commonweath). It will shoot rings around any AK I have ever shot, and at ranges that the 762x39 round would turn into a football !!!!-Mary pass. I like the way it is described in the Boston Gun Bible. Boston says that since the majority of millitary firearms today are designed around the original nazi idea that most battles are fought within certian peremiters. The "Medium rifle caliber" round was invented. Though effective it becomes less potent when you have a group of well trained Riflemen that can shoot past close skirmishes into ranks of mostly inaffective soldiers at much longer distances. and if it gets close, well you are shooting a more powerful round. The only thing I can think of that the AK has on the FAL generally speaking is weight and 10 rounds per mag........ I'll take my chances with "The right arm of the free world" (the FAL).

| I am currently training the Iraqi army and would love to train these guys with the FN. The AKs my team sees everyday are type-56 chicom, Russian AKMs, and some Zastava yugos(best) The AK problems we see here are mostly blown cases(headspace problems) I have had no problems with the FN 14 years of shooting experince with it. Only problems I have ran into is faulty mags(cemte junk) FN is a far more superior weapon. To bad the Iraqis cannot figure that out as they tried with the G3A4, now they are buying Bulgarian crap.GO FN........... ![]() |

| Utah has too little woodlands for the short ranged effectiveness, and inaccuracy of any Ak type rifle. If I had my choice, it would be an M14(same cartidge of the FAL) becuase .308 has a varity of gun type ("sniper", battle rifle, light machine gun, etc) |
