| Super Moderator ![]() | More or fewer different calibers/chamberings? Of course we all want more and more and more guns. Of course buying ammo for different guns can be a bit costly and a real pain in the arse. There was a time when I couldn't imagine buying two guns in the same caliber. Then I found the AK which is chambered for practically everything. Before I bought my AK, I already had two rifles in 7.62x39mm Soviet and one in 7.62x51mm NATO. Now I want an AK in 7.62 and 5.56 NATO. And I'm about to sell my 20ga Saiga to pay for them, and think my life will be easier for it. Also want to get a semi-auto shotgun in 12ga since that's what I have in abundance and the gage slugs are the cheapest in. On the other hand, I justify getting different 30cal guns because the cleaning equipment and bulleta are generally interchangeable. So what do you guys think? Do you try to keep your calibers/chamberings few when you aquire more and more guns? Do you buy different cartridges with the same bullets? Or do you try to acquire a plethora of cartridge types as well as guns and gun types?

| Super Moderator ![]() ![]() | I see your problem, BR3 but I don't have that many guns to worry about. I do have two 30-06's but that only makes it easier to keep stocked up on ammo. Also I've got a 16 GA SG. And I've got a pellet gun which uses .177" shot. Plus, I've got a .22 revolver which I use Long Rifle's in. Now I'm planning on getting a CCW handgun ASAP but I'm not definite on it's caliber, yet. Then I'm wanting an AR to fill out my gun cabinet. Next I'd like to get a .223. And the list goes on and on... But I'd like to have your problem.

| Out of 20+ guns the only ones that I dont have more than one of in the same caliber is .17HMR 7.62X25 12 gauge .45LC It does make it simpler to buy several different guns in the same caliber. With only 3 sets of dies I can reload for TEN different guns |

| Most of my handguns are 9mm or .38 Special. At the moment, I have five 7.62x39 rifles, and nothing else. (My mil surp collection "financed" my S&W collection.) Even though I reload, I try to stick with the same cartridge, or at least the same bullet diameter.

| Senior Member ![]() | Variety is the spice of life. If you have a gun that you like, but only shoot ocassionally, ammo won't be a problem. You'll have some on hand from the last range trip or just get some on the way to the range or the day before. When youhave that many guns, you'll be a successfull engineer doing well for yourself. You'll probaby look back on this post and chuckle
