:insane: Wow...talk about a thread ressurection!! Been almost 2 years ago. But anyway, by now I have several Handi Rifles and Shotguns. What a great value, and so versitile. Though they can be finicky, but I like to tinker and mess with my rifles so it's all good.
Handi rifles are very forearm pressure sensitive and shoot best when the bags are under the reciever, not the forearm. All this and tons more information I learned over at Graybeards. Great NEF/H&R forum.
And Uncle Red, :right: awesome slug gun. They shoot Sabots best.

while on the topic of H&R

I have been trying to find some information on and H&R SB2 Ultra .280 Rem
It is basically the same as the NEF Handi Rifle, but this one is a Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Commemorative 1995. I have learned that the 1996 package had a 12 gauge to go with it. Can not find any info on the 1995. Waiting to hear from RMEF.Any body out there got any ideas?

Hi I just joined this forum. I was looking to buy a h&r 223heavy barrel. But my friends are telling me mixed things.all agree they are very accurate but some say that in the 223 rem caliber the extractor is too small and doesn't extract and you end up sitting there all day reloading with a cleaning rod.some forums mention this problem other people don't seem to have it,however it is not a problem I want to have!does any one know of this problem or if it is common?

All new barrels have an extractor, meaning it actually pulls out the brass case manuelly when opened. I believe you have this confused with Ejectors, the ones that will spit the case over your shoulder upon opening the action. With extractors, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. It would as soon rip off the rim. If your interested, I say go out and pick one up. They are great little guns and you always have the option of adding extra barrels in other useful calibers.

John N - I agree. If you see my last post it's been awhile sence this thread started and now I own many H&Rs and am what some call a "Handiholic" Good to hear your sucess with the 243. My 243 is a straight shooter too. GO for that 25-06 barrel, it's one of the best barrels they offer in my opinion, not to mention you would be hard pressed to find a 26" barrel in a 25-06 anywhere...and at a great price too.

I have a NEF sidekick, and it is a decent gun. For the money, I would say they are better than most of the competition. Since mine is a muzzleloader, I compared it with the CVA's of the same price, and it was nicer, felt more solid.

I got into single shots about 15 years ago and own several. Including Ruger #1's and Browning B-78's.

I own two NEF/H&R Handi-rifles; one in 45/70 and the other in 500 S&W and like them both. Yes the 45/70 can cause a bit of discomfort from it's recoil, but I don't see that as a negative when you add the pluses of it being easy to carry and easy to shoulder and for it's size and price; it's quite accuarate.

I've taken 2 deer and 4 wild hogs with mine and at close range in tight swamps where I hunt, the only thing better imho is a handgun.

According to their 2006 catalog, NEF/H&R do make one in 30-30. It's got adjustable sights, is 38"s long overall and weighs 7lbs. It's only offered with a wooden stock and forearm.

Anyone ever mounted a scope on a 45/70 Buffalo Classic? My eyesight isn't so good and I need scoped out to hunt.

i have been dreaming about an ultra vaarmint in 223 with the laminate stock for a couple years and have just never got one. i want that and then a 45-70 barrel. and probably a couple others. about 200 if you go with just the standard handi rifle, 250 for the ultra varmint (laminate stock), and 300 for the ultra varmint with the new laminate thumhole stock. thats if you can find them on the shelf. more if you have to order. id go buy one right now but im trying to save for a new motorcycle and some reloading equipment maybe. my uncle has a handi rifle in 22 hornet with a low end tasco on it. it shoots great. i want one bad.

I have seen SB2's that were chamberd 7.62x39
I had a NEF .223 that was real shooter and sold it when times were tough I just bought a new Handi-rifle in .22 Hornet and its a real accuracy machine
These rifles are pretty accurate and priced good too, A friend bought a Rossi combop gun 12ga & .17HMR and he is real happy with it "I think its bizzare that they make them put a safety on import single shot's"

That substantiates the fact that people that know anything about firearms are not the people that pass the gun laws. sam.

New England Firearms, They Don't stand by there product

I bought a 410 from New England Firearms and the end of the barrell blew apart for no reason after only one box of ammo. After calling them 20 times I talked to one guy on June 8th who I could barely understand because he was from another country but he said they would send me a refund since then I have heard nothing and they will not return any of my calls. Does anyone know how I can get my money back?

When I do buy it I will be buying a couple extra barrels later on.
I really like the NEF Survivor 308 Bull Barrel, and the stainless Handi-Rifle. Seem decent enough.
The extra barrels I want are in 223Rem, 308Win, 44Mag,and probably 30/06.
When I look at the barrel exchange list the Survivor model isn't listed for extra barrels. The stainless Handi-Rifle is though.
I have heard someone say they sent their Survivor back to get fitted for extra barrels. And that they will lower the trigger for you if you ask nicely enough.
Do any of you have one of these Survivor models? How does it shoot?
Or other newer model NEFs, like the stainless Handi?
What kind of barrels did you buy, and how do you like them? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

I've got a question that maybe somebody can answer. Why do you have to send your rifle to N.E.F. to just buy a barrel? I know they install it but I could probably do that. I would love to have a reciever, a stock/forearm, and maybe 4 or 5 barrels. But I don't want to send it back several times. Please help me out on this. Thanks

I have the surviver in .223 and my buddy has it in.308 and they both started out with ejtion probs, but if you will take it out to the range and just deal with it(take a good cleaning rod) shoot about 100 rounds throu it it should work itsself out, ours did. Or get some tooth past and a drill with averry small buffer and buf the chamber for a while. th .223 has a 1:12 rate of twist so dont shoot more than 55gr with it.
