SKS Fixed 20 round magazine

I would like to install a 20 round fixed magazine in my SKS. Are the Chinese ones with the star on the side any good? And where could I go to find a "Chicom 20 round Fixed Magazine"? I have tried the removeable magazines and they are junk, they constantly jam.

When it was still legal here in California, I saw many people try all kinds of magazines, 20 round fixed, 5, 10, 20, and 30 round removeables. Most would not work well if they worked at all; true some people would work with it bending, twisting and every other kind of adjustment, and finally get them to work, for a while.

The magazine that works best, and usually without failures of any kind are the 10 round fixed magazines that the rifle was equipped with, when manufactured. I know there are SKS's that people have that work flawlessly with almost any fixed or removeable magazine, but I have yet to see one. Of course I probably won't see one here in California, but it is possible for me to see one elsewhere.

I would hope that somebody has figured it out by now. I like the SKS, and have a couple of them, they have the 10 round magazine, and I have never had a failure to feed or any problem, other than they run out of ammo far too soon.

Do not use the 20 round fixed Chi-Com mag (STAR) they are junk. Stick with the Fixed 10 round if you want to maintain reliability or buy the SKS sporter that takes standard 5, 20 and 30 round AK mags.

I am the proud owner of a Russian made SKS manufactured in Russia in 1952.
Fortunately for me, my rifle was new in the box and never been fired, has a
bayonet, and the best of all a fixed 20 round mag. When the ban was in
effect, it didn't bother me a bit, fixed mag was exempt, LOL, luv it. After a
short time breaking it in, this rifle is the envy of all of my friends, and the
accuracy of my rifle is outstanding. Beats all of any other SKS rifles it has
come up against for accuracy hands down, AK's included, plus other rifles.
Many offers to sell it at ridiculous prices, but the answer is always NO. It remains as manufactured, wood stock, ect, and it is a distinct pleasure to shoot. I would not give up the 20 round mag for anything, and it is so quick and easy to load. Quicker to load than AK's and other detachable mag rifles.
Stripper clips are in as far as I'm concerned.
The only modification I have made to this rifle, is to slightly file each edge of the rear sight 3 times with a jewelers file on each side for faster sight acquisition. It works extremely well for me, and is certainly not noticed.
Needless to say I am sold on my SKS and the 7.62 round. Others can keep
the AK's, I am so satisfied with what I have, I feel one can't get any better, but they can get different. Smokey
