| Building a .22
OK I tried to put this on rimfirecentral, but nobody has responded. I have a very strong stock from a competition level pellet rifle, it was once a .22, and now th trigger assembly has copped out to the point of no repair. I can find a barrel/trigger assembly, but i am having trouble finding a receiver to turn it back into a .22. I am wanting to build this gun pretty much from scratch, I think it'd be cool to have one that I built with my own two hands. I am wondering if anyone has suggestions on where to look, I want to build a bolt-action clip fed or single shot, but bolt-action is what I am leaning most towards. Thanx in advance Daniel |

if you want to do it with your own two hands, i'll give you a shove in the right direction. check out these 2 books, "mr. single shots book of rifle plans" by Frank and Mark de Haas. also"building a single-shot, falling-block rifle action" by walter b. mueller.

Thanx for the info, unfortunately at this time I don't have access to machining equipment. Any more ideas? I will be finding a local gunsmith to talk about and explore different options.

Some machining will be necessary to build a safe and reliable rifle. I've long wanted to 'roll my own' too. My basic idea is to use a bull barrel, bore out the rear for the receiver/bolt system. A production bolt could be used, and probably a production trigger unit. The RifleBasix (for the Marlin) trigger would be superb. Whatever is used for the receiver, you'll need to machine out the loading/ejection port, the trigger opening in the bottom, and the magazine opening, if for a repeater. A simple Martini action could be fun too.

Cool cool. I am definitely looking for a good gunsmith in my area, I just moved from TX to CO, if anyone knows of a gunsmith in the Denver/Broomfield/Westminster, and I hate to say it, Boulder, area that would be helpful. I am now settled on building an accurate-as-possible .22 mag rifle, I plan on free-floating and bedding the barrel, I am just looking for the right places to look for parts and smithies to consult.
