Question C&R FFL question

Hey heres one of my dumb questions I often have. What exactly is the C&R FFL? Is it easier to get than the regular FFL?

Yes, it is easier to get than a dealer's FFL. The C&R license costs $30. It allows you to purchase from dealers or wholesalers direct and have the weapon shipped directly to you, and at a substantial discount from retail. http://www.john-oliver.net/shooting/candrdealers.html has a list of a bunch of them.

www.cruffler.com
http://www.surplusrifle.com/shooting...fl03/index.asp are two sites that will give you good info on C&R FFL.

Thanks Troy for the info.. Seems a little confusing on what is considered a C&R firearm. How hard is it to obtain the regular FFL? The main reason I am wanting one is for me and my family to be able to order guns.

Iflylow74;
If you apply for a C&R FFL besure to fill out the citizenship form also.

Most dealers in Shotgun news will tell you which items are O3 FFL (see SOG), plus you get a nice book from the ATF which tells you what is allowed.

Good rule of thumb is 50 years; if its older than 50 its C&R FFL, however NFA always apply!

laws

Also remember (VERY Important) a C&R is for COLLECTING ONLY....it is not a license to buy guns to resell for a profit.
To get a regular class 01 FFL you must be a business and conform to local and state business licensing and zoning laws, but a C&R is for a non-business individual collectors.

I point this out, as a lot of people think they can get a C&R, buy a bunch of SKS's and run and set up a table at the local gun show and make a few bucks. If the BATF catches a person doing this (and they DO monitor shows), they will soon have a big guy named bubba for a cellmate and girlfriend. Selling what you collect to make room is fine, just as long as it is not in a volume to be considered a business for profit.

As for "buying for your family"...I'm not sure how that works with a C&R....guys????? does a C&R holder have to keep a "bound book" and make a paper trail like an o1ffl? that is a good question!

Yes, Bob, C&R licensees do have to maintain a bound book of acquisitions and transfers. We can make transfers, but as you stated, not as a business.

From my local radio station web site http://www.1270wmpm.com/news.htm

Judge Sentences Man To 40 Months For Selling Firearms Without A License - A federal judge has sentenced a Louisburg man to 40 months in prison for selling hundreds of firearms without a license. Some of the guns were later recovered at crime scenes. Timothy Robert Harris, 68, a successful businessman, sold in excess of 320 guns without a license. Federal court documents said Harris told his customers they need not worry about obtaining handgun permits as required by law. During sentencing, prosecutors said certain drug dealers had purchased firearms from Harris in order to avoid paperwork requirements.

Also, check local and state laws. A C&R is useless in some states (like mine).
