The short fat wonders are most all based on the .22 and 6 MM PPC rounds which took off right away on the benchrest circuit. The WSM's and WSSM's and the Remington SAUM's seem to be languishing in never never land. Between Rick Jamisons lawsuit and Ruger dumping the lineup from their catalog hasn't helped them much either. There are simply too many of them. A few might make it but I wouldn't bet on it. The firearms business is a rough business to turn a buck in. Bill T.

The "short fat wonders" are pretty much based on the 404 jeffery. And I thought that the 1000 yard benchrest record was set with the 7mm wsm in the UK? I can see the 270 short mag sticking around, mainly because other than the 270 weatherby, the 270 has no real magnum to compete with, unlike the 7mm, and 325. I do think the 300 will be sticking around, just because their sales have been fairly strong.

the 270WSM, and 300WSM are pretty well here to stay. and yes, they are based on the jefferey case. the PPC's are based off of a russian case, i believe the 7.62x39 but am not positive.

I wouldn't say that, yet.

Just because you happen to own one of the WSM's, isn't reason to say it'll be around foever.

I never said because I own one they are here to stay, just look at the sales that those calibers have, then decide for yourself. i just think they have sold enough 270/300 wsm's that you wont have trouble finding ammo or componets for them in 10 years.

Fair enough, I'm not trying to start an arguement, I just wanted to state my opinion, from what I've seen

The .223 is cheaper to feed and easier on barrels. It is accurate and fun to shoot. I have one .223 and am looking for another. I find .223 WSSM's in my area for cheap prices but I will wait for the right .223.

What kinda prices are you seeing on the wssm? I have not seen any under $500 plus. I was surprised at the cost. When I can get a super accurate Stevens .223 for under $300 it lowers the chances of me buying a .223wssm. However, if there were a price incentive..........

CDNN has the Winchester 70 223wssm Coyote w/ Stainless Heavy Barrel for 449.00.I have 2 of these rifles and they both are great shooters. The only problem i have had is that on deer size game, there usually is no exit of the bullet( just pretty much explodes inside)

I'm seeing A LOT of WSSM's discounted. Davidsons has most all on sale for much cheaper than the long action calibers. I live about a mile from the new, big Cabela's here in Glendale, Arizona. They have the short fat wonders on sale on a continuing, never ending basis. Slow sales are behind a lot of this. Sportsman's Warehouse by me doesn't even carry brass for the Remington SAUM's anymore. They said they needed the shelf space for more movable merchandise. Bill T.

Talk to the guys at Nosler who work with Winchester and they will tell you that the WSSM's are gimick rounds to have something new to get people to buy. If you want the same you can make short magnum rounds using magnum primers

Not only that but a good number of the rifles chambered for the WSSM rounds are having a lot of feeding issues because of their shape. Getting one to chamber from a magazine is like putting a cork in a bottle backwards. Bill T.

a buddy of mine bought a win 70 in 223wssm it was a joke. we took time and broke it in just like we were supposed to adn after that we couldnt get it to group for five shots before we had to clean it. then it would shoot fine for about 5 or 6 shots then the accuracy would go out the window. he took it back and now we all have 223rem adn love them to death. we hav shot and killed stuff out to 375 yards and we havent had them for over a year
