| What does it take to convert calibers
This may be a stupid question. I was given a Remington 722 in .244 rem/6mm and its a 1-12 twist barrel. The problem I have is finding ammo for it. The local academy has 6mm 100grain and thats it. I'd like a little more variety in ammo and i dont have time nor want to reload. Is converting just a matter of getting a custom bbl? like say I wanted to go from the .244 round to .243? or even another caliber? What would be my best option here. The cost may make it wiser to trade the gun on another in a more versatile caliber. A rebarrel may or may not be a simple thing - get a cost estimate from a good 'smith.

A new barrel in .243 with a 1 in 9, or 1 in 10 twist will solve the problem. Remington has dropped many of their loadings for the 6MM. That is unfortunite because it's a good round, but without factory support it will die eventually. Win. uses a 1 in 10" in their .243's, Rem. uses a 1 in 9 1/4" in theirs???????? If you get a custom bbl I'd recomend a 1 in 9" that won't affect the varmint bullets but will help stabilize the longer 100gr to 107gr. bullets slightly better. Like lefty said see a good gunsmith.
